thanks Chris
I can vouch for wickedfrags---I know the owner--Dave Jelley
(totm June 2007)

Hey Capn,
just thought i'd note that Dave Jelley's tank was 'tank of the month' in May 2007, not June...
Dave Jelley's Tank of the Month - May 2007

Unless you mean 'thread of the month' and then i just have no idea, lol... When someone uses TOTM online, how do you know if they're refering to tank of the month or thread of the month?
Cheers,
OwNeD

Skimmer post script

I got a hold of the company this morning and they sent out a new impeller right away

I am just waiting for it to be air dropped over my house right now :)

the skimmer took about half a top tank of nice skimmate out in 24 hours with one pump

glad your getting your skimmer problem worked out capn.

new lights have been great but the yellow eyed tang wont come out of his cave and is breathing heavy since he gets spooked as soon as he leaves the cave by the new lights, suggestions?

Hey guys, anyone know what this sponge-like material on the base of my frogspawn is? I posted this on my thread but no responses. I don't know whether to try to scrape it off or ignore it.

I don't know, sorry. :( I'm sure some of the veterans around here would be able to help, though!

With the skimmer at least half working I decided to add the copper banded butterfly and the powder blue tang to the display tank.
The opposite happened that I thought would happen---everyone ignored the copper banded butterfly but the three tangs I really ganging up on the power blue. I think it is holding its own though its just a bunch of tail wagging right now. The biggest instigator is the sailfin who has completely igonored any new comers to this point
Night time is very close so I am sure they will forget about the pbt by tomorrow.
Hopefully :)

I would not leave it ---just scrape it off really good. Is that the only coral with it on?

I was reaquascaping to get better flow (I stacked my rocks against the back wall, which was a bad idea in hindsight), there was quite a clump in the dark area where the frogspawn was tucked (obviously - see pic!) and then a patch on the bottom of one rock that I repositioned (the former dark side of the rock). Other than that, haven't seen any of it.

I had some of that going for awhile and then it disappeared with increased flow also.
My guess is it is a type of fungus but not really sure.

Congrats! Make sure you snap a few photos of them settled into the tank :)!
Good to hear your skimmer issue is being worked out too :)

thanks owned162
the skimmer is still working with one pump however, waiting for the impeller replacement

second time gluing of the impeller and it worked for 2 min. I don't think these can be glued once they break--two much torque or drag due to the mod mesh

It isn't all that clear to see, but it seems like it is merely a white sponge. It won't really do any harm unless it can take over the coral, which I doubt.

The one thing you do need to know about sponge is if it is exposed to air, it dies. If you pull out that coral to cut branches, you must scrape off any sponge and dispose of it because it will die as soon as it is exposed to air for even seconds. You don't want that stuff dying in your tank. This goes for live rock with sponge on it as well.

However, there is no reason to fear it either. I have tons of sponge in my reef. All different colors. As long as it is submerged, it's fine. And if you happen to have any angels in your tank, they'll eat it.
