Starting a 240 Gal Cube Tank

Well I got a top down camera box from http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=115_222&products_id=1144
and I'm still messing with it. Here's some pictures I took the other day.

Sweet!

I've got pieces of acrylic cut to try and build a top down box, just need to pick up Weldon... nice pics

Thanks for the compliments, I need to practice a bit more. It would of helped to turn off the pumps ;)

I absolutely love the tank and stand, I am going to be going with a tank that is the same dimensions and acrylic, I do plan on getting the stand to be a little high at 40" (gives me just a little bit more space under the stand for the reeflo im getting lol), could you send me a PM on how much the tank cost you from tecenor?

also where did the guy that built your canopy and stand get the wood from?!?! i need to find me some

How well do you like the 4 PFO reflectors, i was thinking i was going to have to use 4 lumenarc mini pendants but it looks like your getting awesome spread with just the mini pendants

hmm yes that is true, maybe i will make it standard 36" and then make a custom riser for it that i can bolt together once i get it in

Awesome tank
I have a couple of questions. Where did you get the tank made and how much did reef ceramic cost? (ball park figure) Is it as much as buying actual LR?
Again Awesome setup I really love the cube tank.

Thanks for the compliments! I wish I could of went to a 40" tall stand but the 36" one barely fit in my sliding glass door so 40" would of been impossible. Tenecor built my tank and did pretty good the second time around (first one was real sloppy) Woodrangler here on RC built the wood skin and did an amazing job. It really looks nice and everybody that see's the tank is just amazed at the woodwork. The reef ceramics cost about 700-750 and have been great, I know some people had issues with phosphates and problem algae with reef ceramics but I've had none and corraline algae is really starting to cover most of the rock. It would of cost about the same or more for live rock, but this stuff has cooler shapes. I like the PFO minis, but might try out a lunemarc just to see the difference in light spread.

well ive pretty much decided on 4 lumenarc mini's using 4 250W helios 20K bulbs, thats what was recommended to me but a local reefer msotly because im going to shine up the lumenarc's outside real nice and go no hood on the tank

mattyice - I just got a lumiarc mini with 250w Coralvue 14k bulbs and also tried a 20k bulb. I also have left the reflector exposed and it looks pretty nice and helps to keep it cool, but it has to be cleaned routinely to keep salt creep off. I only use metal halide lighting on my tank and eventhough I like my tank on the "blue" side of lighting, the 20k bulb was a little overpowering. I'm could send you some pictures if you like, its a brand spanking new setup. Just my two cents.

Sorry for the interuption. Great pictures :D

I'm thinking about switching from the Phoenix 14K's to the Reeflux 12K's like this months TOTM is using. I couldn't believe the colors he was getting from those bulbs.

well I'm going to be getting a pretty good deal on helios 20K bulbs and the colors they give off are friggin incredible and they arent too blue from what i have seen also the growth is pretty damn good for it being a 20K bulb but im going to order 4 helios and 4 giesemann corals to see what the difference is and how i like them

you also cant forget that alot of the color comes from the ballast they are fired on

Im not too worried about the lumenarc's getting salt creap, im going to have fans setup on the tank and they are going to be about 12-15" off the watermy only concern is that the lights will be blinding other people then if i do it without a canopy, and if i do a canopy i can actually get better light into the tank but hotter temperatures, I'm most likley going to use 4 icecap 80mm fans, i will do two blowing in and 2 blowing out to help circulate the air (2 down low on the canopy to get lower temp air, and two on top to pull the hot air right off the top
