Starting a 240 Gal Cube Tank

Chet, My Regal Angel had a little of the Lymphocystis growth on his fin. It is viral and you can't really treat it. I believe my cleaner shrimp was able to pluck it off. Good quality food and water will eventually allow the fish to fight it off. Also make sure it isn't getting picked on by other fish. Stress weakens a fish and thus its immune system and makes it harder to fight off infections.

How many rotations per hour do you get with the light mover? Is it adjustable. I have been looking at similar setups for my cube I'm building.

Thanks for all the compliments, the tank is officially a year old as of July 10th. Been busy with real life and kind of let the tank just do it's thing. After messing around with my calcium reactor and overdosing a bit I wiped out most of my SPS pieces. That's when I decided to just keep my hands out of the tank and let it grow. I lost my Regal Angel after about 2 months, it just wouldn't eat. And my Magnificent Foxface just disappeared one day and was never seen from again. I had purchased a RBTA to replace my other one that was sucked into my Closed Loop intake and it has split 3 times, and the one that was chopped up has since regrown. All of the softies are doing great and thriving and I just put in a Majestic Angel - Euxiphipops navarchus. I will probably stick with LPS and softies for the time being, and when time permits get back into SPS. I still have a few SPS that seem to be doing pretty good.

All of the Reef Ceramic is getting a nice coating of corraline algae. It has some real deep reds, a lot of greens and some pink and purple. Most people can't tell the difference between in and live rock. I also moved the chiller under the stairway closet behind the tank and have a bathroom exhaust fan that kicks on when the chiller does to get all of the hot air outside and not in my living room. I need to do some cleaning in the tank but here are some pictures for now. Sorry for the long lapse, I'll be better about keeping up with this thread.

Oh, the Camera I use is a Canon Digital Rebel XT with a 100mm Macro lense or a 28-135mm lense.

Just a note, the pictures make it look like there is a lot of green algae on the rock and it's really corraline algae. I've never seen green algae grow like it's doing in my tank. The whole back wall is starting to turn green. Wish it was purple ;)

Happy reef anniversary! The tank looks good, I like the green coralin. The Majestic is a favorite of mine, good luck with it! Your stand is still an all time favorite as well, great choice of wood and finish.

My RBTA just split for the first time after four years. I lost one clone to a VorTech and the other two are still hiding in the rocks for 2-3 weeks now. I am not so sure the anems or I am happy about the split. Yours looks full and happy.

Looks awesome man. I see a few familiar pieces in there. Sorry to hear about your SPS, if you'd like some just to monkey around with - LMK. If they grow, they grow ... if not, no worries.

I hope the tacos are treating you well. Stop by for a beer anytime, I'm just up Higley.

Thanks David, I need to clean up some of the dead pieces in the tank and start looking for some different colored softies. I might take you up on the SPS in the future. Hows your place coming along? You better be careful offering me beer, I may never leave ;)

Well I sold my ASM G4X and replaced it with a ORCA Reeflo Skimmer. This thing is huge! It is so easy to use, you set the water height and don't have to fiddle with anything. It uses a modified sequence dart pump. Anyway here are some pictures.

Next to a beer bottle for size.

And a quick video.

I can't wait to gone the cube tank club, your tank looks great despite teh upset with the calc reaction. Good luck and keep on keeping on.

thirschmann - I've been following your thread, looks incredible and you don't even have the tank yet! Are you back in the US yet?
Lunchbucket - Thanks, the stand is one of my favorite parts of the whole setup, Scott did and incredible job.
I'm very impressed with the skimmer and I know it's not even close to broken in yet. I'm feeding it with a GenX 4100 pump but am going to tee off my overflow and have it directly feed into the skimmer.

In regards to the Orca skimmer video...not familiar with that skimmer but are they supposed to be that turbulent in the neck? Great tank btw.

Not back yet, I'm shooting for saturday in a week but looks like I might have run into some more "scheduling issues". Could throw me off for a few more days, but I serously hope not.

Good luck and the tank looks great.

cecilturtle - the neck is actually just full of tiny tiny bubbles moving on up. There is very little if any turbulence in the neck. The skimmer has only been running for a day and a half and it's pulling out some nasty stuff. It will break in over the next few days. I'll get some pictures.

thirschmann - I hope it all works out for you, that's got to be a big pain in the rear. And tell your Dad I want his garage and what's in it ;)
