Starting a log

I got it back it the van and took it home to start busting rust. Using a circular sander with disks and wire brush attachments, I got it down to this.

I then went to Marunaka's and got some zinc primer for marine use ~no not U.S. Marine ~ ocean marine ;)

Primed all the sections that were initially worthy of a coat and will be flipping it over to do the other side once this dries and behaves

Here's a pic of the sump outside my hooch and a DYI calcium reactor I made a year ago...works great though a little bulky but hey...

Well, that's it for now but will keep them coming as I keep going!!!

Well, just got my heavy damage removal kit in and will be asking the james in the Acrylic Man's forum for some pointers before I begin. Will be picking up the tank tomorrow and setting it in a good location in order to start working it.

I like the new setup in work! Cant wait to see it complete. Let me know when you are ready to stock it, I can help with that. If you need any other help le me know, I would be happy to.

Thanks Magrath will do! I worked hard this evening and started out with the 2400 grit micro-mesh then went onto the 3600 micro. Hit it with the Tuf-buff pad then went at it again with the sponge pad. Took about 3 hours cause all I did was the the two sides and the front panel both inside and outside. Just did a major cleaning of the back and scraped the drired coraline of that and the bottom. Plumbed it back up and sealed the drain and filled it with water tonight. The tank's outside in the yard and by the time I was done it was too dark to take any quality pics. Will take some in the morning whist the sun's arisin'. Want to run another coat of enamel primer on the stand and then get some regular enamel paint and run a couple of coats on the stand as well. I might start pulling back the run this week and checking the floor's levelness. hope I don't have to do too much work to the foundation for that...sigh...

Way to go on the new tank, Sango!
$500 sounds like a deal on the tank you're getting rid of. I know that comes with stand and sump, but would I get lights, skimmer, plumbing, etc, too?
Thanks.

Not really, but I have a TON of that stuff laying around. Sorry guys, I really don't want to sound like "i got it like that" but the fact is that when it comes to fish tank/aquarium parts ~ Imma a hoarder...sigh....but my wife loves me anyways...I'm a lucky guy. I literally have to JUMP across KaKa in my garage just to look in boxes I have forgotten what they contain...If you guys are laughing right now, then you're in the right place; for you've been there ~ done that...sigh.

I can provided some extra stuff to get you up and running. I got the canopy that Jason made of it but it doesn't match the pre-made stand and I will remove the 250 MH ballast on it for my new setup. It has two 175MH rigs on it and I can discuss a modest cost for that as well. I also have an EVC 180 modified to hold a beckett venturi unit and worked well before and that I was going to use as a back up if/when I need to do maintenance in the reeflo 250 of maybe cure some live rock in the future.

I spoke with Taira-san at ACO and we will be wokring on the landscape rockwork in the near future. Still not sure what I want though. Since I don't plan on staying in this house for more that 3~4 years, I want something that will come apart reasonably easy in the future.

Well, its been a week again. Really didn't get much done after that night of polishing but I did add another coat of black enamel paint to the stand. It should be ready to go. I am tired of painting and waiting for it to cure.

Here is the before and after set of pics of the tank:

And a few of it after: (yes, its filled with water for a quick crud test)

I didn't put to much focus on the back panel because it will be covered with a thin sheet of black plastic to allow me to take peeks in on the back from time to time and it will be welcomed to start on coraline ASAP...more to grab onto I figure...

This is looking thru it full of water from front to back; yes that's a sched 50 pvc pipe that was plumbed to go to the sump. I will be plugging that up and running either dual 2" internals or 2 over the back 1200's flowboxes with a secondary closed loop to boot.

Wow, That is sweet! Man it's been a while since I have been on here. Too much work and no time to play. Gl;ad to see everything coming together. Let me know when you are ready to work that chiller! I have some sources for the compressor.

Thanks Jeff. Been looking forward to getting together! But like you, busy as a one-armed-paper-hanger!...sigh. I have been hard at work at nights and have take some pics. Need to upload them into shutterfly then start qriting my log again. The dust has settled, just a little, so I might be able to post some more updates soon.

Check your PMs I need a little help with around 60 gallons of water for my new office tank. I remember saying you have a large container for mass water hauling.

Checked them, sorry misunderstood. Yup, the 130 liter containers are at your dispose...Let me know whne you want to make the run.

Hey guys, thought I'd drop this thought for now: I decided to go with this overflow system:
front-wide.jpg
from a thread I saw on silent operator.

I have already drilled the tank to hold four of these bad boys thry the back. Of course, I have it plumbed with Okinawa available pvc and valves but it should work the same. When I get a chance, I will upgrade it to look like this, but for now, it will be plimbed with Okinawan (Marunaka) plumbing

If you are going with this style, what size pipe will you use? It is an interesting concept that should work well. Only thing that I wonder about is how large will the spill tray be? The one thing that I question is with your lights, it might add a shaded section in the tank.

If you are free this Sat to make a water run with me, let me know. I am dying to get my office project up and running and I know the folks there are too!

Sure, lets make it happen. Please let me know what your plan of attack is so that I can consider taking my rugrat with us...if you dangerous/hard, I'll leave him at home. Just let me know...

Good point on the shade; neer thought about it. I might just be able to position low light species in that area...I like this idea because it is completely silent, something that is a MUST where the tank will be located. I just found out yesterday too that premium aquatics made a mistake and they never shipped my items out!!! I was furious...but got over it quick. I sent them a payment for expeditious shipping and I hope to get the skimmer her in time for set it all up at one time. I hae a natilus 380 (/) runnning now rated for 300 gals so I can use that in the interim.

Kids will be fine with us. We can back the car right up to the door and there is some nice chairs for the kids to sit right across from the tank. the kids will be in full sight at all times so won't be a porblem at all. The only other place I need to stop besides the water place is to pick up a bag or two of sand. I figure we can dump the sand, fill the tank and next week I can fire everything up and fill it with LR. I will fire a couple pumps just to circulate the water so it won't become stagnet but want to be there when I test all the plumbing for the first time. I prefer to be there and check it out every hour just in case of leaks. Give me a call when you read this. I tried calling you but no answer.

One idea for your tray is to use clear for the bottom part of the tray and black for the up right part to hide the pipes but still allow the light to penetrate and eliminate the shaded area. Just a thought. We can talk about it more this weekend.
