Are the tunzes back ordered everywhere? Probably so from what you posted. I was thinking about ordering one for my 120, but I may be waiting a few more weeks before ordering anyway.

They are back ordered evrywhere that I know of. Roger of Tunze said it may be a few more weeks.

Dano

A local buddy of mine picked up a 9010 at Salty Critters last week give him a try (Sponsor). Did you wind up going with the guy that I told you about for the sump? Maybe get some trochus snails they will clean that hair algae problem up. Once you get that sump and skimmer going you will be very happy!!!

My tank is going well add some cheato today and am setting up the quartine tank this weekend.

I tried Salty Critter and they are out also.

I went with your recommendation for the sump.

Can't find trochus snails without paying $30 for shipping. The algae is getting better with the crew I have.

I have my bio filter in my sump getting ready for the quarantine tank.

Just order the snails whenever you order corals/fish. It's not worth it to order snails/cuc alone, but with a larger order, it works out. And the trochus snails are really good to have.

Day 59

CRAP CRAP CRAP :furious:

It's in a deep crevice on one on the largest pieces. There is more under the patch of algea on the right.

I'm going to remove the piece and chisel it out. I may take this opportunity to redo this area as I was never really happy with this piece. It's flat and kind of boring. I have one more piece in a bucket that is about 8 lbs. If I replace it I will still have 135 to 140 lbs of live rock.

I also found the following today.

Hopefully a bristle worm.

Day 60

I removed the VERY large piece of LR that had the bubble algae and added an 8 lb piece I had left over that was sitting in a bucket with a powerhead. The piece I removed weighs about 35 lbs.

I did some rearranging and below is what I came up with. I may tweak it a little more because a few rocks aren't as stable as I would like.

The piece I removed is now sitting in a container with a powerhead. After I remove the bubble algae I think I will just sell it.

I am also setting up a new tank. 65 gal. Have you thought about painting the back of your tank blue? I used Rust-Oleum Royal Blue (7727)

Here is a link to my tank:

I have had it up and running for two weeks now. No fish yet, just live sand and LR.

i like your sump setup jccash what kind is it?

My sump was used which I bought from a LFS and I don't know who the manufacturer is. The skimmer is made by a company called Suncoast.

Day 67

It's been a while so I thought I would post a update.

The new sump is nearly completed and should arrive next week. I also will be receiving the new skimmer on Monday. Due to some travel the week after next I am going to hold off until I return to make any plumbing changes. Looks as if the weekend of the 27th will be when the new sump and skimmer will be installed.

I will also have a good bio filter ready for the QT so the first inhabitant is not far aware.

I know I have been going slow but I feel slow is better than a crash.

The green hair algae is nearly completely gone now just a few isolated areas left that are nearly dead.

There's some brown turf algae that doesn't grow much but also isn't going aware very fast

I also still have a lot of sponge growth. Any ideas on how to get rid of it without removing the 40 lb LR it's attached to. I thought about removing as much as possible then lowering the water level below the sponge area to see if that would kill the rest.

Day 72

Finally got my Tunze 9010 skimmer this week. The new sump is behind schedule and since I have to travel next week I don't want the sump to ship until I get back to avoid having it sit on my porch for up to a week. This will delay the change out until at least sometime during the week of the 29th.

I have a lot of changes to make which include the installation of the Tunze Osmolator for my top off (the gravity fed unit with the float has been working flawlessly (knock on wood) but this will add some safety against failure). The Tunze 9010. A new Eheim 1260 to replace the Mag 9.5. (I had the Mag 9.5 dialed back with a gate valve which I don't need with the 1260). New revised plumbing to reduce and hopefully eliminate the drain bubbles and noise. And transferring all the fuge stuff.

The algae is completely gone except for a small amount of brown turf like stuff my crew won't eat and a small amount of brown algae that collects on the glass and overflow the Astraeas feed on. There is so little left the crew was nearly starving. I am feeding them now with some dried seaweed which I wrap around a small piece of rubble LR, some flake food which the Peppermint shrimp and Nassarius snails go nuts over and some algae chips used for bottom feeding fish. The first time I put some of the flake food in the tank it was almost scary. I had critters popping up everywhere going after the food.

I think I lost two or more of the hermit crabs due to hunger. At least that's the only thing I can think of that would have killed them. I had to "hand feed" two others that started looking bad. I literally picked them up and laid them on some dried seaweed which they started eating immediately. I can't believe some of the on-line stores when they sell these clean-up crew packages based on tank size. I ordered 1/3 the amount they recommended and now I have to feed them.

Below is the latest shot of the tank (Yawn).

Hey Dano,

What made you go with the Tunze besides the name. I'm spinning in circles deciding on a skimmer. I don't want to outrageously expensive and looking to stay in the 350.00 range. That 9010 is one compact skimmer, if I had come across that I could have made the fuge alot larger.

It's a new tank and if you read the previous threads you would know why I am going slow. In addition I work 70 to 80 hours a week and travel for business which does not allow a whole lot of time to spend on this tank.

I am intentionally going at a slow pace as I mentioned when I started this project. In fact I am ahead of my original schedule.
