Starting a new tank thread....

Its 1/2" glass, but theres just so much of it that it is really heavy...

The silicone is a litle sloppy down in the bottom corners of the tank... realistically theyll be covered by sand, but its just one of those things that you would think they'd be abit more careful with. Especially when you order a tank with starfire front and side panels its blatantly obvious that youre worried about the tanks looks...

I honestly think they could do like a $50 upgrade service where they mask off the glass and make the silicone flawless. I wouldve gladly payed the extra $50 for flawless silicone considering the tank was $450 less then the next nearest price.

Sorry the pictures are with my cell phone so theyre not the clearest, but you get the idea....

hey???!!!.... where's the BLACK silicone?.... :(
I'm with you on the silicone service, but you would think it wouldn't (and shouldn't) cost anymore to get a good silicone job if that's what you do for a living everyday... :p
oh well, truth is your tank looks awesome no matter...!!! :D

The black silicone is on the vertical seams... They tape off the edges for the black silicone and its only between the pieces of glass, they dont smooth it out on the inside of the tank like they do when they use clear silicone...

That clear you see thats extra is for the bottom pane eurobracing they do....

None of my sand has been sold yet. Im still debating trying to transfer most of it over, or just using new sand and then seeding it with a few cups of my nice populated sand...

Got some rock (95# worth) in there tonight.... I have to get some epoxy and fiberglass rod in the morning to hold a few things in place and I have one more arch to add, but it came out great, theres a TON of places to swim and hide in there....

Now I just have to bring the glass back to the glass shop to have them trim it down an 1/8" to make it fit in the sump... I hate when people think that when you give them exact measurments that you dont need the piece an exact size. :furious:

Anyway, heres the aquascape until I get the epoxy and fiberglass rod and finish it....

I put a VERY light film of sand down just so the rocks not rubbing on it while setting it up, then I will backfill with the rest of the sand afterward....

If I end up with a tang it'll be one of the Ctenochaetus variety. I really like the Chevron and Two spot bristle tooth tomini's, but would also think about a Blue Eyed Kole...

Definitely wouldnt put an Acanthurus in there.

If I were going to put in a Zebramosa it would be a scopas. I would see some real aggression out of a purple as it got bigger, and possibly out of a yellow as well.

I really think Im going to be sticking with smaller slower fish in this tank. Im still undecided about my Anthias pair and my Male swallowtail..... My PBT died last week for some unknown reason, but my male swallowtail swims quite abit and the Male anthias can turn into a spaz when his woman ventures out too far for his tastes. Maybe he just needs a few more ladies ???

My Onyx pair, fridmani pseudochromis, midas blenny, green mandarin, and most likely the radiant wrasse will be going into the new tank, although the wrasse is large hes not a crazy swimmer.

Other than that Im thinking about adding a group of bangaii, maybe some other smaller peaceful fish.....

Is that your only complaint with the tank so far the silicone on the bottom??? Personally that wouldn't bother me at all unless I was going bare bottom. Seeing the rimless really makes me want one now and glasscages prices is about as high as I would go.

Yeah, thats really the only issue I see with it. Other than that the price really couldnt be beat. Even if the thing leaks when I test it, the price was only $25 more than the quotes I got on the glass and building it myself....

On a side note, the glass company finally got my glass done yesterday... I got the bubble trap built, and then I will be putting in the return baffle tonight.... Hoping to start filling it right before or right after Christmas...

I really like this new setup. On the aquascape, I might suggest moving some rock to the sump, so that you can keep the back walls clear for scraping, give your fish more swimming room, and allow for better circulation in the tank. This will also free up space for more corals on the back side of the rocks (one of the pluses of having a tank that is 3 sides is having "surprise" corals that are only visible when you peek around to the sides of the tank).

Also, if you want to cherry pick some corals for that tank from my setup, I've got some waiting for ya. A sunset monti, tyree flower petal, and if you've got QT a whole plethora of acros.
