Starting Hyposalinity today for ich

First tank transfer in Friday went quick and easy. Next tank transfer is tomorrow. Everyone seems to be doing alright. Such a relief. I was nervous about this

Next tank transfer is today by 6 PM. Well, have a slight problem, something isn't right with the next tank. Filled it yesterday morning with RO, put in salt last night about 6, it's cloudy as can be today. Like, cloudy cloudy. Only thing in it before was vinegar to clean it, so now I'm in emergency mode figuring out what to do by 6, as I work till 5!!

Only option is that I make 7 gallons (that's how much my RO will make by 5, mix quick, and leave all fish in a mere 7 gallons rather than their 20. Sucks. But I guess it'll work.

That will work. You can always add more later.

Was it the same batch of salt as before or a new one?
Will it stay cloudy when you turn the pumps off?

I normally don't like putting fish into freshly mixed saltwater as it may take a day to react out and could be harmful to the fish.
Don't you have a LFS where you can buy premixed saltwater? Another option would be Petco as they have now boxed up natural saltwater.

I try to mix enough water for the entire TTM in one big batch. This way you know all the parameters are the same. I use 5 gallon buckets for my TTM instead of tanks.

I should've thought of this..... I'm mixing as needed and it sucks. It's not ideal for the fish, I like at least 24 hours of mixing before putting them in. This is nerve racking.

Found the problem for the cloudiness, heater. It's covered in a hard whiteness, explains it completely. It's not broken anywhere that I see, but it's not right either.

The closest LFS I have is about an hour away. To get to one tonight before needing a transfer is not feasible.

I have two transfers left, I'm mixing all of the water tonight for them so avoid this!

We want to make sure we are doing this right and not taking any chances. We're not at a race against time because the DT is sitting fallow for several more weeks. So instead of risking the fish having adverse effects from VERY fresh mixed SW, and a time crunch to have the water heated in time for the next switch - we decided to go back to day one. Everything I read said you can't go even an hour over 72 hours, we would've been over and that figure why risk it.

Restart is no problem. By the way some people use 2x2x2x2x2x2 rather than 3x3x3x3

Good to know. As long as we are dry, I might change to 2 days in there.

Just got finished at LFS, 2 new heaters. The last two were brand new, granted they were a "general store" pickup, but they were $28 each, only option that was available.

Now another $65 gone to heaters, these are titanium fluvels. Hopefully they stay working. Not complaining! Just wish the first ones didn't have an issue.

I plan on transfers at 2 days just incase something happens and I need another day. Also I heat the space around my tanks (5 gallon buckets) so I do not need to clean heaters.

Darn, can't see your pictures! I have two heaters, so it's not a big deal to clean them for me. Well. It wasn't before this one failed. [emoji57]

Bad news. Did transfer number 2 yesterday, before moving the fish over I treated with prazipro. The six line had a bit of discoloration on his belly, so I was happy with the timing that I'll be switching him to the treated tank shortly.

Woke up this morning to the six line dead in his cocoon. Everyone looks ok, but not sure what happened with him. Sucks, he was a "shy" six line, not even remotely aggressive.

Yes, ate like a champ at every feeding. His stomach in the first pic is like 'melting' away, the outside scales. In the first pic above his eye it's there as well.

Transfer # 3 tomorrow, fish are seeming stressed a bit. After transfer 4, I'll be putting them in a 40 until the DT has finished the fallow period.
