Steve's 480g upgrade

I thought the same thing about my 500. But after considering the sand and the rock I figure 30" would be fine. Plus it looks better being 30" in an in wall setup. Looks more Proportional. My 500 looked kind of Squatty once I got it up on my 48" stand. Of couse my tank will be full of softies and aggressive fish so lighting was really not a concern of mine.

I like the 30" tall but i am vertically challenge therefore i may have a hard time reaching the bottom.

BTW, have you receive your light sensor?

I am going to use two protein skimmer in my new setup. Beside the BK, i am going to use the Elos NS4000 in sump. I have heard good thing about the skimmer. I have got to give it a try. I may test out the Tunze Master Doc in the near future...... :)

Won't be available in U.S version 60hz till March. I am in line for the first RD2 with HC wheel...

My plan on tank circulation has change due to the fact 6301 may be harmful to smaller fish (Per Roger at Tunze USA). I will go with 4 tunze 6201 at four corner point toward the bottom and 4 tunze 6101 at the surface. I will have 2 tunze 6101 and 2 tunze 6201 on each side on interval 2. I know it will cost more but i will have tons of flow :D. I will not use Tunze magnet holder to hold the pump. I will drill 4 holes on each side and hard plumb the pump into the euro brace using the tunze holder by wavy sea.

I think it will look clean if i use the wavysea tunze holder, plus i can adjust the flow direction and i can hide the wire inside the PVC. What do you think?

Oh no another 2 skimmer set up.....Steve you will not regret it. Come and see my tank and you will see the different.

hmm 4 wave box,4 x 6201,4 x 6101 I can bring some clothes over and we can wash it in your reef tank....:-)
what kind of sps are you keeping? Oh I know the one that expose to wave and low tide....one thing for sure you will not going to have red bug or AEFW since they got blow off by your tunze....:-)

The second protein skimmer i.e the Elos, just to help keeping my sump clean from detritus. I am not going to use the filter sock. There is not reason to run 2 ext protein skimmer if one can't help keeping your sump bottom clean....

I am not going to entertain this cuz i heard Asian sweat is harmful to the SPS cuz of the rice :D

I am not going to have RB or AEFW cuz of my reefkeeping practice i.e QT every piece of frag or aquaculture coral that enter tank. It has nothing to do with the flow bro....

4 waveboxes, 4 tunze 6201 and 4 tunze 6101 is for me to prove my point to you that there is no such thing as too much flow if you know how to use it wisely....Oh by the way, my tank is 480g not 265g so i can get away with more powerhead :D

Famous last words! j/k

Thats wild, Roger told me that 2 waveboxes and 4-6101's would be plenty for my tank(8x4x2). He said it may actually be too much. Your going to have some Insane flow man.

Sounds good Steve, you'll be happy with the 30" tall, I like mine and would only go a little taller but not any shorter.
400's will be fine intensity wise but I think you'll find a low par towards the edges of the tank and some shadows in between.
You may have to raise them up to get the spread, If I was going to do 400's on a tank like this I'd think about doing 6 instead of 3 and use the smaller reflectors like the stealth or mini.
As far as the reactor goes, i have a PM 622 and its only rated for 500 gallons I think and I have over 100 sps corals and some large clams in my 600 and I have no problem maintaining calc and alk with it and no kalkwasser or 2-part needed.

Sounds interesting, is this going to be for a canopy setup or an open top setup!!!

Hello Reef, it is going to be an open top with light rack which will house 4 T-5 pendant of 4 bulbs each, 3-4 LAIII pendants . I think 3-4 400w 14k BLV and 16 T-5 will be enough for my size tank. I was going with 1000w x 3 but i decided to stay with 400's instead. I like the 1000w but it is going to be super hot....

My plan has change couple time with the chiller, MH and controller. I am going to use the biotopus (i like the layout as well as the lab grade probe and sms module). My chiller going to be the Ocean Geotronic from Finsreef. They are going to bring in the larger chiller which rated for 600g tank. The chiller do heating and cooling also has it own controller.

Christ, i was going to order the galaxy 1000w but i have to do 3 outlet of 220v. I don't know how much that going to cost. My lighting consist of 3-4 400w 14k blv and 4 pendant of t-5 4 bulbs each. I think that will cover the tank pretty well. I try to talk to Dave at Coral vue to custom an LAIII reflector for me which will house 2 light bulbs instead of 1. If that is possible, i will be running 1 400w radium and 1 250w blv 10 or 14k.
