sto0pid retracting aiptasia

My clam has an aiptasa on it...see photo:

every time I go to poke it with kalk it just hides real fast...any tips? I dont want to hurt the clam.

get real close but dont touch it. Give it a good squirt righti n the center

Use a syringe. you can also use Joes Juice which comes with a syringe.

I have the same issue. I plan to remove the clam and take a toothbrush to the darn things.

Its so close to the mantle...would if the kalk gets on the mantle? It may look easier to do from the picture...but that picture is a close up.

Damn that is close,
i would try and get the clam to close up somehow with out having the aptasia retract and then nuke that suker down.

Ill try that....but it might be hard to get the clam to close without the aip retracting...Ill keep you updated.

Yeah Joe's Juice does not make the aiptasia retract...its a very impressive product.

Thats funny...its the needle that makes the aiptaisa retract. Or do you mean if you just spray it on it instead of injecting? It feels like micro surgery trying to inject, and it would never work so I just sprayed it. It may have got some on the clam's mantle...the clam closed up and then when it opened, it didnt open very much. I hope he is OK


an off subject Q: Will a Derasa clam do well on the bottom of a 20 or 21 inch aquarium with 175 MH bulbs 8 inches from the surface?

you can try feeding the aptasia so that it becomes full and won't retract as fully. I tried that a few times and worked like a charm. Good luck!

I'm no clam expert but I think your lights would be fine. I seem to recall people suggest they are able to feed off the light much better if they are not very small.
There is a clam forum here as well.
