Stomatella snails

Anyone know where I can buy Stomatella snails? I have heard they are ideal for reef tanks because they reproduce easily....and their population grows only to what is needed to take care of the tank their in. I am sick of trying to guess how many snails I need, I either do not have enough, or I get too many and they died...making things worse.

I know that different snail eat different types of algae, but I have heard Stomatellas are a great all around snail.

Any comments? Maybe someone has some they will sell me?

stomatellas get eaten by everything is the problem. i hear they're also hard to ship. not many people sell them and the people that do charge too much. manual cleaning and feeding less is really the best way to take care of algae.

I get them by visiting LFS and asking for one whenever I spot one in a tank. I've gotten two this way. Most stores will give them to you, or just charge a dollar or so. Mine don't seem to reproduce, but they do live a long time, and I find them interesting to watch. They're quite speedy.

As peasofme suggested, good husbandry is the best way to control algae, but stomatellas are a pleasant and interesting addition. Check out the live rock bins and see if you can find any.

I have some that I could sell, but it would be too expensive right now to ship. Mine reproduce in my tank like crazy.

Stomatellas are awesome, but the only place I can find that even lists them is Inland Aquatics. I got some with one of their detrivore kits some years back, and they did well in my last tank.

carpena, any chance you're coming auburn/syracuse way any time soon. I just had to move my tank due to power outage and lost my beloved stomatella in the process. Tank hit 68 degrees before i got home from work.

I'll take some too, when shipping is possible. I think they'd do okay 2nd day mail, as long as they had a heat pack. I know this isn't a buying/selling forum, so I'll pm you as soon as the next wave of cold weather clears (June, perhaps?)!
