Store Rating Thread

WE need a sticky where when someone goes to a store they post their experience of the staff, appearance, selection, etc. Anyone want to post their experience here?

Touchy subject. I've opened my mouth too wide regarding both good and bad LFS experiences in the past and it has bit me in the keister just about every time.

uhh yeah, actually I would recommend putting a sticky up saying to watch what you say about LFS's.

If you had an incredible experience post about it.

If you had a really bad one, I'd keep it to yourself, and not shop there any more.

When we have threads about people slamming a LFS all it does is make the club look bad, and then stores are not likely to help us out at all.

I'm sure there is a horror story for every single LFS in the area, from someone.
If we all posted about them, then all the stores would dislike our club.

I might be going out on a limb here, but that's how I fell..

From past experience, any LFS thread that goes on for more than a page starts to go south and turn into a gripe session with no positive outcome. I wouldn't sticky one, but at Steve says, post good experiences and let your wallet do the talking if you have a bad one. My 2cents.

How about we allow stickies noting which LFS offer discounts for members. I'm not a member, but I think that would be a win/win (for club and LFS). It would also be a good motivator for the LFS to offer a discount, or better discount than other LFS.

It appears there are several techy members of the club, so how about an anonymous site that allows the LFS ratings / comments? I know there are a couple VERY popular sites that allow the rating of classes and professors for colleges. Maybe one exists for LFS? This would allow a place for comments good and bad, not associated with the club.

Oh, sh!t, is my support of rating LFS gonna get me black-listed by them now?

Who offers discounts is posted at our club website.
Good idea on the website, but it could not be club sponsored or endorsed.

I think word of mouth is the best way to handle this. LFS's are a resource and too many times we fight the temptation to "bash" and that is not right. If you like the store, please continue to shop there. If you do not, you have the choice not to.

I think this is the right way to handle this subject and I believe that there are other members who feel the same way.

Most of the LFS owners and employees read these threads and most of them know our handles so....it wouldn't be a good idea to talk bad or good for that matter about a particular store because it will come back and bite u in the rear. hahah

LFS: "So, I read that you've gotten a great deal at so and so's eh? No wonder I haven't seen you around here lately....Don't go asking for any discounts from me. heheh

ME: Uhhh, no I swear I haven't been to any other shops, yours is still the best.

DOH! hahah

So far I don't have any bad experience with any LFS but O st would be my favorite store to fish storing. I have a limited budget and Peggy always give me a nice discount and "no tax" deal for
paying cash.

I do agree with you Jackfishy, Peggy had help me saved at least $ 1000 in this hobby. My best advise to you folks: Bring Cash!! Just make sure you talk to Peggy only, talk to her in the garage...hehe thats where the deals are. The rest of them are basically clowns. She is the owner of the place, so start right at the top if you want good deals.

I am very happy with what I have read here and I am sure all who are effected by these types of threads are also.

As I have said before, this is a very public forum and if we are actually concerned and knowlegable enthusiats, intrested in creating a positive atmosphere for the exchange of ideas in a constructive enviroment, we need to start with the tone of the LFS threads and be fair to all parties in order to forge long lasting mutually benificial relationships. This is looks to be an encouraging beginning.

Perhaps in the future to allow new members and interested parties a fair and impartial review, something like the SNR dining guide, could be implemented and redone quarterly with the intention of give the LFS a gauge in terms of cutomers what you would be looking for, and give them the oppurtunity to address and possible remedy the concerns. But going about this with respect and with the correct intentions would need to be the focus. This is a subject you may want to address with your new PR guy when he gets up to speed in the near future.

Kudos everyone, and thank you!!!

I had my tank crack a few months ago. It was a Monday evening and when I called "O street" after hours, not only did they answer the phone but they also reopened the store so I could buy a new tank that evening and save my livestock - that is fantastic customer service. They won my loyalty

You meant that Peggy's quoted price included tax? If not - then it's called tax evasion.

I don't know how do they practice their accounting, there are alot of businesses willing to pay your sale tax when you make the purchase. Unless you have enough to proof them wrong doing, otherwise I would not speculate thing like that publicly. Besides Peggy give us good deal all the time.

Hey All

I don't think we should limit ourselves to positive feedback only. However, I don't think this is the right forum for rating the LFSs.

Perhaps this thread would be more appropriate for the members only
forum on the MARS website.

Ok, Yes, I live in Santa Cruz, although I am from Sac and I return their at least once a month. My mom is starting her first reeftank and we have been very impressed with the coral reef shop in carmichael. They are located on the corner of dewey and madison and seem to have a very good selection of corals and seem very knowledgeable. Many people in the store spoke very highly of them, and I am returning this weekend to buy a red sea max aquarium. At this point, I would highly reccomend them.
