Strawberry short cake

If they're not all from Australia, they're at least common in Australia and rare from current collection areas in the Indo-pacific. Specific wholesaler or seller would be anyone that has access to Aussie corals.

I totally agree with you on that. I just thought it would be cool to be able to identify what appears to be three types at this point.

But as of today no one knows who coined the name yet? Maybe who ever has had it the longest can step up and say who they got it from.

That is a great example of the branching type.
Great find and where did you get it from?

Here's an example of the other wild SSC that's supplied at times not that i've been lucky enough to score some, looks nothing like my piece and doesn't appeal to me as much but i'd still take it home in a heartbeat :)

Great picture and another perfect example of the branching variant. Seeing your from Aussie maybe you can do a little research for us and find out two things for us.?
1) at what depth of water is this Sps collected
2) what part of Aussie if that's even possable
3) collect one of each type and send them to the US lol

Last time i checked the collectors were getting them in 15-30 mtrs of water but i'll find out how deep they generally go now. My piece came from the GBR not a Western Australia reef which is the other region corals are supplied from at times. The one i posted is from the GBR i'm sure but i'll ask the guys next time i visit to make sure.
When i bought my small branch it was pink and white, then the LFS guy said 'that's the one the yanks call SSC' - SOLD ! I would have bought it anyway, think it was only $45 but i'd already seen pics of nice SSC colonies on RC so i was one happy camper when he said that. He explained that they hardly ever got any because the collectors were sending most of the best stuff overseas (bloody yanks) simply because the prices were much better. I even asked if he could try to order me a colony and he said he could but he'd have too pay the collector the same price an overseas customer would and they coral would prob end up triple the normal price a colony went for.
Would the postal address for the SSC shipment happen to be yours Michael........ :p

This is mine when i bought it only 3-4 days out of the ocean, it had great PE within 30 mins.

As an ex fish store employee who did ordering, I am extremely jelly that that kind of stuff would be coming in on orders for people because all I got were brown half dead twigs lol. Amazing photos guys, one of my favorite corals

This is a pic of my SSC from last year..... $25 aussie dollars for a piece a little smaller than a baseball 3 years ago and is now the size of a dinner plate :)

Amazing and the growth is total different from what I have seen here already.
This acro is straight up amazing.

Also when you bought it was it already called SSC?

Thanks for all the information, and yes please use my postal code Lol

Also at that depth wouldn't that be considered a deep water acro?
Simple mind blowing now

See my first post in this thread... Even if Unique Corals wasn't the first, they were the ones that generated the hype about the name/coral and were associated with it.

Also, frags and colonies have very different growth structures and conditions will change the growth and coloration dramatically. I'll try to get my pics of the 3 I have, two are frags and one is a colony that was grown from a frag that has lineage to the UC Macna '09 SSC.

I am pretty sure Unique Corals was the one to coin the name as well...

I just got a SSC that my LFS special ordered. It was very light colored when I got it, and it's bleached a bit now (mostly light brown and white). It's still extending polyps, so I'm hoping that once it gets acclimated, it will come back. The other SSC in this thread are beautiful.

Just a fun fact the SSC corals real name is acropora microlados. I wonder if the color diffrence is simply just lighting/nutrient differences tank to tank.

In some cases yes Sps can transform or morph depending on tank conditions but the picture above in my opinion is not an SSC.

this is mine first pic is full light second is actinics and third if front shot. This is supposed to be the original that was very expensive. When i bought the frag the colony died from where i got it from. It has grown great under intense lights and high flow.

heres a frag of it. It grows pretty fast but when i frag the colony it turns more red and the red looks like it glows but more white light is needed to bring out the red.

Nice dunk! Yours actually looks different from the rest too, branches are skinnier and longer looking.

On another note does everyone's ssc have a blue growth rim when it's encrusting?

What an amazing find you have there and your growth is exceptional. But sorry to say that this also is not an SSC but still an amazing sps.

I wouldn't say blue to describe it perfectly as I do no what you mean. Mine grows and it looks more of a whitish with a blue huge if that is what you are asking. But I just though it was the LEDs that were giving it the perception. Mine is a slow grower compared to most around here on reefcentral. I truly believe its because of two main factors.

1) getting blasted with direct flow from the return line so its very think right now
2) it's 7 to 8 inches from the laser light beams from the LEDs

I am not trying to tell anyone to buy LEDs but the light is so much more powerful in PAR that it fools the naked eye. I am still adjusting mine and I have noticed better colors and growth since lower the intensity and spectrum to 85% if anyone wants a copy of my graph please send me a pm and I will send it over.

Michael
