Strawberry short cake

What an amazing find you have there and your growth is exceptional. But sorry to say that this also is not an SSC but still an amazing sps.

I am sure it is ssc. where I bought it from they know they're corals and collect from Aussie and this was with them since it was talked about at macna. But I'll humor that it isn't ssc if you tell me what it is. What I mean is if you know it's not ssc you must know what it is right? I believe there are many types of it out there. But not of the original if this is it who knows lol.

I can' tell you what it is but I can tell you the SSC is Acropora microclados and from your picture this does not have the coralite structure of Acropora microclados. Then again I have been wrong on many occasions. But please don't take my word for it just do a google search and see what shows up.

Or check here http://coral.aims.gov.au/factsheet.jsp?speciesCode=0045

I was having the same problem. I got the hang of it by searching with the correct Latin names.
Hope this helps and can you post a close up picture of you colony? I have never seen anything like it. It's simply amazing

No reason to believe that isn't SSC. It looks like some other captive colonies I've seen in growth form. In fact my frag came from a colony that looked similar and has lineage back to the macna '09 coral. The frags grow out and form quite different looking colonies compared to the wild colonies and fresh cut frags I've seen.

Ssc is also my favorite acro. I finally just got a tiny piece from a local swap. Starting to encrust and wasn't very colorful to boot. Needless to say I'm babying this thing lol.. It's tiny so I won't bother posting a pic lol..

Can you guys please post a close up picture? Hey maybe it's a SSC but just not the microclodus. The picture above I will say is very impressive and it has a unique growth form.
In my opinion its not microclados

I can't really get a good pic of it in the frag tank and it's nothing spectacular yet anyways but I'll post it for reference not sure if it's the real deal but I like it.. I can try to get a better pic with my camera another time.. It's small like 3/4" fwiw.. The mother colony is super nice w/pink tips and polyps. If you haven't noticed by the frag tank I like a challenge and usually get the LFS to give me a nice discount on brownies and corals not doing too good.. It's paid off in the past and I like the challenge =)

Gorgeous - if you ever decide to frag that colony, please let me know. I'd love to have that beauty in my tank!

I have one of the original frags from MA's originals colonies of the SSC and it is by far one of the best sps's in my tank. Hobbyist that visit and lay people all marvel at the one particular piece, whether they know the name or not. I paid $139 for a small 1"-frag and worth every penny.

It is by far one of the hardiest and most dependable sps colonies in my tank. Been through some serious Alk swings during the past 4-years and keeps on ticking........

The pic is off a bit b/c I am a horrible photo taking.....but the whitest hue on the pic is much more of a nice pale green.

This colony is probably triple in size since this pic

Liveaquaria often has the "DFS Northwoods SCC" up for sale. About $80 USD for 1" frag. Does anyone know how this particular morph grows out?
