stringy mucuus on crocea mantle edge?

ive had 2 crocea for about 2 months now, lately ive noticed a stringy mucuus around the edge of the mantle on both, also, one has a white edge protruding underneath its mantle almost like a second mantle that i havent seen before, wondering whats up

It maybe being stug by something. Is an corals/anemones touching it?

no , none close, barry from clams direct says this is a defense mechanism, i have a post in the reef discusion forum on mystery worms i see at night , im wondering if they are to blame........

roons; there are some worms that communly come on LR that will burrow through the shell of the clam. Is there any small holes in your clams shell?

Mine has some stringy mucus at the edge of the mantle sometimes (When it was in a lower flow area)...doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason...maybe it helps with friction between the tissue and the shell? A little flow and you will never know it was there.

the white area under the mantle may be new shell growth. does it run the edge of the upper shell at the very top? if so, he is growing. i dont know enough about the mucus to comment on that.

yeah the white is new shell growth, barry at clams direct says they secrete mucuus when they are irritated , its a defense mechanism, damned if i know whats causing it........turns out the worms are epitokes, harmless.........................they dont have much strings in the morn, as the day goes on they seem to secrete more and more.............

i have the same thing with my 4 in. gigas

My 12"+ gigas does the same thing he seems fine cant figure it out though.
