I was enjoying having a blue and a black but looking forward to two blues.

2 months worth of color change on the smaller eel. The eel pictured below is the black eel in the pic above.

Ahh that looks awesome. Ive wanted a ribbon so bad but they get huge from my understanding and I figure they would out grow my 150 gallon

you do know salmon is not a main food it high in fat and over a long time can kill an eel it is meant to be t treat every month or 2 weeks

Jordan may come back and comment, but I believe the smaller eel died due presumably to a broken spine likely caused by a fight with the larger eel. I believe the larger eel is still going well.

I forgot to update this thread but Ken is correct I lost the smaller eel.

A few months back there was a brief but violent fight after lights out. It only lasted a few seconds and both eels immediately returned to the pvc structure. Within minutes they were sharing the same opening as if nothing had happened. Neither appeared injured but the smaller eel would not eat from that point. Tried all of the tricks including live gobies via the string- all was ignored.

A month or so passed and I notice a fire shrimp picking at the smaller eels tail. Upon closer inspection there was exposed tissue and bone. I touched the eels tail and it did not move. I assumed it had died and decide to remove it. It easily came out of the pvc until about half where I discover a sharp bend in its spine and the front half of its body is very much alive. The spine was broken about mid body. Eel had to be euthanized.

Larger eel is doing fine. Pics from a few minutes ago--

Did you read the entire thread? Salmon is still fed but it is a small part of a varied diet. It was paramount in the weaning process due to its oil content. Try rubbing a goby down with halibut or amberjack- nothing happens.

Very inspiring I just read the whole thread. I'd love to have one of these in my 90.

I wonder if maybe a rock fell on his back, or the other thing I was thinking is maybe he tried to turn around in the pipe and hurt himself. Either way I'm so sorry that happen, but kudos to you for doing the right thing and putting it to sleep. Out of curiosity how did you do it? Freezer?
