Stupid Clam!!

Ok, it's not stupid, but he's driving me nuts. I've had my Maxima clam for just over a month now. He opens up nicely and looks like he'll be very colorful when he matures. I placed him high in my tank so he get's plenty of light, I also made sure to keep flow to a minimum. He'll usually drop anchor within 5-10 min. of being placed and he'll stay for a few days. Well yesterday, I got to re-aquascape my tank for the third time since I've had him. He likes to move occasionally and he'll end up falling down behind my rock work. My tank is 30in. deep, so it's a real PITA to move all my rocks around, so I can get ahold of him with my tongs. All the while, my Maroon Clown is beating the hell out of my fingers (she actually drew blood for the first time). I'm almost willing to drape some wedding veil along the back of my tank as a safety net, just to save myself the aggravation of digging him out again. Sorry to rant, but I had to vent. :D Anyone else ever experience this, or am I unique?

It is kinda funny. I picture him in my head like a cartoon... hopping over to the edge of my rocks and jumping off. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... heh heh heh, let's see him dig me out this time.

maybe try him a little lower in the tank. there is something he doesn't like about the spot you've picked for him. try him 1/2 way up or so and see what he does. he's gonna pick his spot all you can do is help.

Have you tried to get it to attach to a 1/2 shell? I've moved mine many times in the past 2+ years and still attached to the same shell.

Stupid Clam is right, i woke up this morning and this is what happen to my yellow tang. Damn Clam got a hold of it and about an hour later the tang die.

-Sorry to hear about your fish. I just asked about this in my club forum. That concerns me a little. I'm sure a few of my fish will clam chew toys soon.

Back on topic:
-I got my clam a few days ago and he kept jumping/falling within a few minutes of me putting him somewhere. After hours of this I found a spot he liked.... but my female Maroon Clown didn't like it there. Finally after two days I found a spot he liked and got him to attach to a small rock if I need to move him.

Hi, its indeed frustrating to see that the run away clam is not at its original spot where u had intend him to be. And to dig into the rocks jus to fish him(clam) out is yet another tedious job !!! I ever had 4 inch baby maximas and they all run ard like some kids. especially when the lights are out. U would notice that after a few hours of lights out, try to shine a torch, u will see that more often than not, they had already somehow moved!!! UrggHHHh..... By the time I found him deep in the rock scaping, the clam had already attached its base to the rock. I had no choice but to jus pluck it off. And due to many times of doing the same process again and again, all 4 maximas got too stress and died on me... Lesson learnt, I will never buy clams smaller than 2 inch and will place them at the sand bed with a small rock beneath the clam....
