styrofoam under tanks

I built a stand out of 4 x 6 lumber for a standard 180g 6' tank and would like to know if the styrofoam under the tank can be more than one piece? I have plenty of 4' lengths and would like to just cut them to 3' and use two to cover the 72" span.

Yes that will be fine but if your tank has a frame on it your not going to want to use Styrofoam. If it has no frame or is acrylic that's when you would use Styrofoam.

Styrofoam should be used under frameless tanks to avoid point-loading from dirt, surface imperfections, etc. It is not structural at all, so having 2 pieces is no issue.

If you have a standard framed tank, you should not be using styrofoam at all.

Foam under an acrylic tank really does not have a purpose. Acrylic and glass do not behave the same, and do not react to the same stresses in the same way...
