I’m looking for information on how to upgrade the impeller on my mag 9.5 for my skimmer and this is what I found, it looks weird, doesn’t look right if someone have a better idea or suggestion before I destroy my pump

I will really appreciate any information

Thanks

Ricardo, I hear the scrub pad material is really good, I mod mine and it works good but did not use the right materials, I am getting some from one of the club members to try out, I will let you know.

Finally some chatter in the forum! I just bought a ER 8-2, so I'm thinking of removing the old NW and doing the meshmod. Does anyone have a spare Sedra9000 NW sitting around that I could buy for an experimental and/or backup?

Does anyone around here know if we can find Enka (sp?) Mat around, the stuff that they found to work best in the meshmod thread?

I'm thinking that maybe this weekend when I'm down I'll install the meshmod, or at least maybe see if I can see someone else's to give me an idea for a nice project to do next time I'm home...

Manny, wouldn't it be a huge PITA to CNC a needlewheel? Could you even? I would think that they're all plastic injected. I'm sure if you could make a NW easily with a CNC machine, you could just as easily engineer one to run more efficiently than some of the POS NWs out there on skimmers...

trust me my freand i have seeing the cnc ones and it can be done

btw

i have a difrent idea about making my own model i just wan it to test it well i will test and you will see the results *** soon as i can lol or have the time

Ypu are welcome to see mine when ever you are in the area, I upgraded my ER 8-3, I was pretty easy to cut the neddles and I didn't have to drill any holes (used existent) to install. I used the silicone mesh I use for my food feeding bag it works comparable or better than the OEM, I think if I change the media to the correct one it should even be better

It can be done, but that design has been outperformed by the mesh design, it is more effective at breaking the bubbles and relatively easy to DIY.

well guys what i am trying to say is i have a difrent idea about that and trust me roger it will worck and probably preforme beter then the original

yeah the mesh mod really does work but u have to use the right material. I have a little bit of the mesh left and already promised it to rogger but there is a guy on the board called magvi that had bought it in bulk and was selling it for a couple of bucks. There was a group of people that were modding the skimmers, mainly on the reef octopus skimmer mod thread and weve used a bunch of different stuff. First it was the gutterguard which seemed to work ok ( i never did it) and then came about using mesh. There was a heavy duty stripping pad made by 3m that held up for a little bit but then started to fall apart. Then enkemat was tested and has been great! It holds together without a problem. heres a link with pics on how to put it together http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92578

Yea I remember seeing you a lot in that tread Armando. I'm more of a lurker than a speaker. I didn't think to PM magvi, because he was worried about the commercial posting rule thing, so I just kinda let it go and hoped that maybe someone would have had it locally...

Rogger, I may just have to take you up on the invitation to come see it myself. I bought the 8-2 and had it shipped home, but havn't even gotten to see it yet because I haven't been home. Does the 8-3 also use the Sedra 9000? I wouldn't mind modding it at all, I just worry that I don't yet have a comparison basis so I won't know the difference that it makes, and also if I screw it up, I'll have to go buy a freakin $50 impeller (even though it couldn't hurt to get their new upgraded version).

I'm guessing then that no one knows of a local place to buy some enkemat. Man, I wonder how many people would buy squares of it at the FragSwap this weekend... A roll prolly costs around $50 or so.. I would definitely pay $5 for a decent sized square of it to test it out on my pump...

So I tore my sump apart, hoping that I could squeeze the 8-2 into it... No joy... I'm going to go tomorrow and take it out, cut the top off of where the water used to drip from, make a bulkhead towards the back, and then maybe I'll be fortunate enough to get to test out my new 8-2. I fired it up at a weird angle in the sump with water flowing, and it just overflowed, but it works, and that's what's important.

rrigau....did you ever get around to doing the mesh mod.?
Im waiting for my ENKAMAT to come in the mail so I can do the mod. Keep us posted on how it turned out
Brian

Not yet I order that sample to and still waiting for it
I wander is there’s a needle wheel for mag drive 9.5
