Plan on 8 - 10 gallons minimum for evap average is around 2 gallons per day--but there can be considerable variation, depending on ambient temperature, humidity etc. That is over and above what it will take to cover the pump intake and keep it from sucking air.
sounds about right and i'll stick to that.
On another note, i got up to the get the "90 gallon" tank the guy was selling and his dimensions were off and it is really about 48x16x23 which is more like a 75 gallon. I ended up picking it up as i was already there, but talk about way off in measuring.
That being said, please tell me what you think of my final volumes for each chamber:
Fuge: 28 gallons
Return: Total 12.19 with 9 extra gallons of water before running "dry". This is assuming my ATO failed i would have that amount of time before going dry. I'm also thinking to install a float below the water what would kill the pump and alert me if the ATO ever failed.
Skimmer: 14.3
Total overflow volume allowed: 21.5 gallons.
If i look at my returns into the tank they would allow about 1-2 inches of water to drain before a siphone would break. This equates to about 7-15 gallons which means i have plenty of room in the sump.
Also, does all this seems like enough or would looking for a 90 gallon be better. Id rather do this right the first time and no wish i went bigger.
Thanks again for all you help and suggestions. This has really helped me plan this build.
