Sump help

Does the drain need a shutoff valve? There’s one on the main drain, but not the emergency drain
IMO....all pipe's going in and coming out of tank should have shut-offs at the closest location to the in and out of the tank....especially when hard plumbed.....

The fish are doing great! I tested the water and everything looks all good with that as well. Now I impatiently wait to add anything 😬
Take your time. Would love to see some pics of the tank to document the progression.

Sounds good.
I still need to get a submersible heater for the sump, more live rock, hang the second light, and get a screen lid for it

Whatever my LFS sells. They didn’t specify unless I missed it which is possible. I checked the water today and took a sample to my LFS and everything looks great, Im still not putting anything in the tank for a long time though 🥴
Awesome. Please keep posting pics of your progress. As I mentioned, I love a new build.

Thanks! I’ll probably add more rock this weekend. Premium Aquatics is located about an hour from me so I was thinking of making an appointment to check them out. I frequented them when I was in the hobby 20 years ago but they were closer by then.

Nice, I’m jealous. I love PA and wish they still sold livestock on their website. Jason is a great guy.

No, not yet. I honestly can’t stand this HOB overflow. Uneaten food settles on the sand. I have two power heads so flow isn’t an issue. I recently added a flogspawn and the tissue receded almost immediately. I’ve tested the water with Salifert test kit and everything is near perfect so I have no idea what’s going on. Ever since I added the sump, things went to 💩. I lost all of my CUC hitchhikers and haven’t seen any new ones with the new live rock. 20 years ago I had it so simplified with just a HOB skimmer, power head, and heater and everything thrived. I feel like giving up, but at the same time want to keep trying 😕

Sorry to hear about your troubles :( Hmmm, this is strange. I'm curious what your water parameters are. Can you post your test results?

I just tested and my levels changed again…calcium and salinity are a bit high, and mag is low. Not sure how to get the salinity perfect with water changes

Ammonia 0
Nitrate 25, were 10 a few days ago
Nitrite 0
PH 8.15
Alk 8.3
Cal 560
Mag 1166
Phosphate .5
Salinity 1.028
