Sump in april magazine

Hi

You got a sump suggestion on firgure 3 and i got a few questions mostly because im considering a new sump


1. How does the refugium water get back into the system, is the 2 black things i can see in the middle holes, or will it use a small pump?

2. do you have or know where there might be a build instruction for that sump?

The sump you are asking about was designed by two RC members that can answer your questions much better than I. It was featured in a recent "Tank of the Month" article http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-10/totm/index.htm where you can see it in use as well.

I was alerted to this thread by Greg, so will be happy to answer any questions ...

1. Those two black bulkheads are indeed the returns from the refugium back into the sump. One is used by connecing up some PVC to make a gentle return back into the sump while the other has an upward facing elbow on it in case the first one clogs creating a nice backup outlet.

2. I will post a picture here ... These are the original plans ... I don't use the back left section anymore, I bring the tank water straight into the skimmer section. If I were to do it over again, the whole section back there would be a skimmer section.
