Sump Plumbing

Hi all,

So I'm new to sumps, where would I buy the plumbing material to plumb my tank? Do I need to order these online, or can I get away with Home Depot?

Thanks

I got some parts at BRS that box stores in my area did not have. There was a 90 degree rounded angle & a Y splitter & possibly more. That is all I remember though.

Once dry it's safe, so follow the directions for dry times.

I used Oatey brand PVC clear regular cement and the clear primer. Most important is use the primer and cement recommended for the pipe you're using so it bonds correctly without leaks. I.e. Don't use ABS or CPVC cements.

Gate valves, if you are using them, and bulkheads will both probably have to be purchased at a fish store / online.

As for pvc cement, Oatey is popular and easily found. It is safe almost immediately.

Ye I noticed that, so is it that mush of a difference useing gate valve VS ball valve?

I use christy's red hot blue without primer just fine.
if you know what you need, you can shop around for best price, online or box store.
just add the parts to the cart and see how much the total is.

The advantage of gate vs ball valves is ease of use and adjustability. They do cost a little more, but most can be taken apart for cleaning and are very easy to adjust. Ball valves are designed to be used in a all open or all closed position. (not that they cannot be adjusted, but it's a royal pia)

Because all of the plumbing we do is very low pressure, the use of primer on the pvc is optional. I haven't used it in at last 20 years and have yet to have a joint leak. I prefer to use Oateys cleqar cement as well because it can be wiped off the outside of the fittings immediately after assembly to keep it all looking neat.

If you go with any threaded fittings - and I really prefer them over slip for the pricey gate valves and bulkheads, DO NOT use Teflon tape! Use only PTFE (Teflon) paste. Put just a small amount on the male threads so that as you screw them together the paste spreads itself around the fitting. Using tape is asking for potential leaks and/or split fittings.

For difficult to find parts, my go-to's are www.savko.com and www.usplastics.com
