Sun coral

Ok I've had a sun coral that I got from a guy at the St. Louis frag swap today was a week ago and it's still yet to open. My brother is keeping it for me right now until I finish cycling my 40 gal. Hes got it on bottom of tank like in a cave where it's not getting much light, like the guy told me to do but for some reason still hasn't opened. He moved it earlier to see if it would have better luck somewhere else. Any ideas?

He is right about the low light. If you move it in a shaded spot, you should see the polyps start to open back up. I would move it back to that spot or somewhere similar. Try to feed it some mysis or something similar to see if they open up.

He's still got it in a shaded area. I'm probably gonna go over there tomorrow and try to spot feed it. Hopefully it'll open up. I'm anxious to see it. There is a LFS here in Memphis Tn that has a Jack Bean dendro I think is what he called it. I'd LOVE to get my hands on a head of that but not for what he said it cost. Lol

It is at kermits. In the tank on the counter as soon as you walk in. Awesome piece!! He told me it's illegal, they can't import.

Good luck man. Read that thread that swinger posted.

I have to spot feed mine every night with a 2 litre bottle. When I say everynight, I mean everynight. About light, you can keep them in the open where ever. They are just not photsynthetic so a lot of light or no light will not matter.

Now as soon as I put my hand in the tank, they open up. Mysis is def good food for them, but if they aren't opening try something smaller and rich in protein like cyclopeeze.

Well after reading that, I went to my brothers today. It started to open up very slightly, I think I'm gonna bring it and put in my 29 gal so I can spot feed on a regular bases. I don't expect him to do it for me. Lol.

I would bring it home because it does need you undivided attention. Use a 2 litre bottle and cut the bottom off and place it over the tubastrea and feed. Ours took alomost a week of feeding to come out completely. Don't give up, just keep feeding even if it isn't taking the food.

They become like clockwork too, kind of cool. It will come out the same time everyday, give or take a couple minutes.

Have any pics of her?
