Pirates Cove Reef
I have had a nice lens for some time, but found I was very limited with the D3000 body so bought myself a Christmas present a D7000 and a 60mm Macro for taking extra close up shots of my frag tank. Still learning the camera but the ISO goes so hi it allows pictures to be taken at a 5.6 aperture and the White balance at 10k is working pretty well to take free hand shots. I do have some picture box glare and I never turned off the flow in any of these shots. Reading and learning about the camera, but got some great shots at my daughters soccer game as well with the 6 frames per second quickness it takes so many pictures you are bound to get some right.

Here are a few shots of mostly Chalice and Acans as I need to learn how to bump up the depth of field in my SPS shots.

First shot is my first 4 chalices growing out, Pink Boobies, Vivid Hybrid Watermelon, Strawberry Fields, Bazooka Joe

Enjoy I hope to have some time this week to learn how to get some good shots of my SPS, love the new camera!

Very nice Scott
When can we see some water on the 400?
Also do you still have the lennardi wrasse?

I have the 105 lens as well and it is not that great at shots closer than 1 foot and in a shallow frag tank the 60 is way better and the shot of the Fuego is at about 4" so it is way better at close up.

I am taking a week off to work on the tank between Christmas and New Years and I am on a mission to get it wet! I have 95% of the parts and just need to make the time. 4 kids and three systems to maintain on top of work has put a layer of dust at the bottom that gets me mad every time I walk by. Soon!

Sorry to say the Lenardi was doing great but went under the sand one night and never came up, I lost a Rhomboid to a Sally Lightfoot that got to big and started hunting fish and that is my suspect. The crabs keep my sump clean now and have not lost a fish in that tank since.

I need to finalize my sump design and get Advanced building it as this is the final piece of the puzzle.

Shots are looking pretty good Scott and your collection is second to none. Like Sanh said you gotta have good subjects to start. Are you processing with a software or are these unprocessed?

Looks good Scott. Every time I see your tanks, I'm always in awe of your collection. Now all you need is to get these badboys in your 300. :D

Dan how is your tank coming along? Also my collection is not as nice as many others and while I have it going pretty well in my LPS dominant system, SPS still makes me crazy. Just lost another medium sized colony to RTN when everything in the tank is looking awesome??? Mike 400;) and I just ordered $400 worth of Ball Valves, Gate Valves, and special Y fittings and I hope to get my sump ordered this week. I need to call John your buddy from Advanced:)

White balance is tweaked a little as well as exposure as my lights are very blue, I will post a before and after picture tomorrow as I have bowling tonight. I use Aperture 3 on my Mac I can also show you with the touch of a button how to make them look Sexy:) I made a template for T5 and one for Radium to adjust the colors to represent what they look like to my eye. I also made a template to make them look like what some others advertise on their for sale threads. Aperture is a awesome photo program my wife has taken some pictures from vacation that did not come out well and made them perfect. It also allows you to take the exposure and details of a certain picture and apply it to others so if you have one great shot with perfect lighting you can add that filter to all the photos taken that day and make a bad photo look great.

oops my bad, 400..... How can I forget, I helped lift that beast. I have to admit, John does some great work but getting him to fix his screw ups are a nightmare. Just make sure you measure everything before you leave.

Thanks Lawrence.

Wow Scott looks awesome. I read this thread last night and then spent the next 3 hours researching my next purchase... a new camera. I'm leaning toward a Nikon D5100 and a macro lens.

So you're a Mac guy, not familiar with Aperture. I use Photoshop and I have Lightroom but haven't figured out how to use it yet. Even with Photoshop I find it somewhat difficult to get the colors right. Anyway I haven't been taking pictures of the display because I have bad subjects so I'm out of practice. Losing pieces when everything seems to be fine is one of those great mysteries of this hobby...I guess. :headwallblue: Kills me everytime it happens. As far as my tank, it's up but fighting the typical diatoms/algae thing but some of the few survivors are starting to color up...slowly. Gonna take a while. I gotta come by and see your display before you get the 400 up...then come back after you get that bad boy running.
