Sunset Monti Bleaching?

Ive had these 2 pieces of over a year now and they are starting to bleach. I dont know if its beacuse, i came down to the tank this morning and my turbo snail knocked all the rocks over causing the 2 corals to be flipped upside down for who knows how long over then night; or is it the fact that i moved them up higher in the tank to quick? All my parameters are fine as well. But i do have one question ive had a tiny temperature swing which, does anyone think could cause this problem? All my other SPS and other corals are perfect where they are and show no signs of bleaching....does anyone know the answer to help me out beacuse im stumped....:bounce2:

ANd when i mean temp swing i mean from about 75-77 degrees

What parameters did you measure and what were the results that were fine?

Once again... you've asked for advice without providing the information that anyone would need to help. Monti's are sensitive to changes in alkalinity. Do you have calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium test kits yet?

Sorry can't help. The tank appears to be cycling. The ammonia is harmful.Don't know what 5 means either.

You're alk seems high and your Mg a bit low. All these also need to be stable over time (something I'm trying to get a handle on as well).

I agree with Tom in that your tank appears to be going through a mini cycle. There's no other way to explain why you are seeing any ammonia or nitrite. Has anything died recently? Add any new rocks? Disturb the sandbed too much? What are you using for test kits? API? Most good kits will give your Mg results to the tens place at least. Can you be more accurate than around 1200? Is it below 1200? Above?

When you give your test results, please always use units so we know what is what.

13dkh is very high for alkalinity. 7-10 is considered normal, but I've personally had bad results over 9.

Did it get that high from supplementation or just from water changes? If it's water changes, trying stirring your dry salt mix before you make another batch so that you even out the concentration. If it's supplementation, stop supplementing until it comes down. In either case, go slowly, bringing alk up or down too quickly is really tough on monti's.

You should incresae your Mg to 1300-1400. Low Mg can cause some color fade, but 1200 isn't all that bad.

Calcium?

I think you should stop the tinkering for 6 months. Stop adding/subtracting. Just give it time and get a good kit. It seems like you are trying to set up a pseudo "break even" sell/frag/trade thing which favors high turnover of corals. Which is fine but you need to let the system recover from the constant tweaking. Or hire someone competent to manage it once a week. Otherwise you will continue to have issues and we will continue to watch this like a car crash.

I know at least one of those monti's came from my tank, and Ive had temp swings of more than 2 degrees F without any bleaching.
Personally,I agree with Alk bouncing around is probably what caused it.It could explain a lower Mg level as well ,especially if your causing precipitation from over dosing Ca/and/or alk supplements .I havent had or found the need to supplement Mg in my system to date using Rc salt for water changes it consistiently hovers close to 1500ppm.Even with numerous sps steadily growing.

FWIW- Agree with the others ,your tank is cycling I hope you dont have any fish in there. Your tank is definately cycling for some reason, likely self inflicted.I maybe be mistaken but I think you got those Montis in June not a year ago.
