Sunset Monti vs. GARF Bonsai

My encrusting sunset monti is absolutely owning my GARF Bonsai. It's started to overtake the portion of the GARF that's encrusted and it's killed tissue 1/8 to 1/4 inch further out than it's grown so far. Any suggestions to form a truce in this one-sided war, or is my only real option to remove the GARF and put it somewhere else? The tank will be a year old this coming Sunday and this is the first instance I've encountered where a coral is totally dominating another.

I'm really surprised that a Monti is over-powering an Acropora. Yes, your only option, if you want them both to thrive, is to separate the two.

IME encrusting monti always win over the acro, plating monti however is a different story. you are going to have to move the bonsai as this will be easier to do, if yuo remove the monti there will no doubt be a small fragment of it left and it will eventually be the same situation.

Thanks all. I think I'm going to frag off a good sized piece of the GARF Bonsai, but will leave some there. The monti will look cool encrusting over the shape of the bonsai.

Interesting, I have a rainbow monti that's losing to some unknown acro. The edge of the monti stopped encrusting at the acro polyps and started curling upwards. I figured that meant the acro was winning; I'll have to keep a closer eye on it now.

I have a rainbow monti as well that's getting pretty close to a blue millepora and it looks like the mille is going to keep it at bay. I think that it's probably case by case on which coral will win the war.

My sunset monti is killing my rainbow monti. I think the sunset is very aggresive. Even my meteor shower is losing to it.
