Nice stuff in here!! I don't have many sunset shots but here are my first ones ever taken with a Canon S3IS. These are the shots that got me into the hobby. Since I went to a rebel and now a 40D. The last photo is more recent taken with the 40D.

I know these aren't great but it's what made me passionate about photography. Enough so that I got my friend to do my half sleeve as a merge of the two first images :)

I took this a few years ago with an old P&S when wildfires devastated a lot of Southern California, including my neighborhood. The fires we're over my shoulder about a quarter mile at the time. The plane in the photo is one of the firefighting tankers.

I shot these during my honeymoon at the Halcyon resort in St Lucia. I'm not sure what the settings were, but they were shot with a Rebel XTi using the stock lens.

Whoa!!!! That first shot is incredible!!! Nice captures.

What lens were you using?

Thanks.

The first was with my 24-70 and the second with a 17-40. I use a full frame sensor so my 24 is pretty wide. I'm also using a 3 stop split-grad on the first image to balance the sky with the foreground.

Cheers

Interesting. Kind of like HDR without the CGI look?

Sort of, in that I'm making the visible tones match the capabilities of my camera. Split grads have been around for a long time. That's how film shooters dealt with the same issue. I could have taken 3 or 4 frames and blended them in PS, but I get no joy from that. I really like getting it right "in the camera."

Cheers
