Super turbulent tank

I wanna do something out of the norm... and i was thinking of stuff to do... Has anyone experimented with actual waves in their tanks or a very turbulent back and forth movement in their tanks? Ive seen zoas in the wild getting waves slammed against them and being exposed to air... anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

If you use a taller tank, with overflows drilled about midway up, you could try surge devices known as dump buckets. This would give you heavy wave action. You could also use different size pumps to fill the dump buckets which would give you a more random pattern.

tunze waveboxes do just that I believe. I haven't seen one in person but I think they only work on about 6ft. tanks. On a 20 you would have to displace way too much of the water volume to get a wave, this would not be stable and probably knock the tank off the stand at worst or knock the water out of the tank. I dont know though, maybe you can come up with something

Ive seen the surge devices and dump buckets like like afishyonados describes.. for me, i think they take to long to fill up displace too much water..

jmkins and all: I wasnt really planning on doing it with my 20.. i was thinking of making a long short nano tank to play with.. maybe sealed at the top so i can just play around with it and shoot water everywhere, yet stay in the tank.. Would the type of wave maker they use in wave pools work? or maybe some custom flat piece of acrylic that moves up and down like \ to /and repeated?

i couldnt use RCs search but i googled it and found this interesting pic

if i incorperate a high flow overflow like that into a side tank, all the water woulndt be an issue... ill continue to brainstorm.
