I'm curious as to what everyone runs for light duration in particular, and so I thought it might be insightful for people to share.

If you could list the type of coral you house, your type of lighting, and your light duration each day. Also, how you came to your decision for how long to light your tank for each day.

Me:

LPS/Softies
Reefbreeder LED's
11 hours each day (2 hours of which is blue only)
I'm new to the hobby and like to be able to see my tank all day long lol

15 SPS, 6 LPS, 1 leather, several different zoas and 1 paly.

3 Vega colors total on 8 hours (2 blues only). Tank is pretty new so I'm still deciding how much time to have the lights on. Following this thread closely.

480 display and about 100 gallons in the sump and fuge.

I keep primarily soft corals such as leathers, toad stools, fingers, polyps, mushrooms etc. Also have some hammers and a flower pot. Everything is growing and spreading.

I've been running 4 Reeftech LED's over my tank for about 3 years now. 2 of them are 180 watt units which are at either end and there are 2 that were custom built and have half the LED boards in them for about 90 watts. Those are located in the middle of the tank on either side of the central overflow.

I keep my lights about 12-16" above the water and don't run any of the colors over 70%. These fixtures have blue, royal blue and white led's and I've got them set as close in color as I could get them to a 20K halides which is what I had before them. I also used a par meter when I set them up to try to match the par levels of the pair of 400 watt halides and then raised the intensity a little bit over the course of a few months.

My sunrise starts at 9:30 AM and the sunset ramp down begins at about 6:45 PM. Ramp up and ramp down takes about an hour. Sunrise begins on the East end of the tank and ends on the West. Same with Sunset.

As I said, my tank has done very well under the LED's and most of my corals have grown like crazy. My big hammer went from a single tiny head the size of a 4 year olds pinky nail and is now over a dozen heads. One of my two RBTA's gets the size of two dinner plates and is every bit of 24" across.

Please advise the pros/cons associated with a break in your lighting duration?

Currently I run 7am to 7pm, but was wondering if there was any benefit or harm associated with adding a break into lighting during the day. Clearly the utility save, but I am more concerned about impact on livestock.

i.e - On 7am - off 12pm
On 3pm - off 8pm

24G Nano Cube with (2) Compact Florescent 10k white/Blue Actinic, No Moonlight
2 clowns
CUC of 4 crabs 1 snail
Hammers, bubble, zoas, xenia, mushrooms,

Current parameters: 8.2 pH, 440 Ca, 12dKH, 0 nitrates, 0 ammonia
2 - 4 gallon water changes every saturday
No refugium
