Has anyone posted about this before? Do you think it's real?

Clowns

Clowns

Unfortunately, this fish will have difficulty swimming because of the weight of the fins.

There is a reason why clowns evolved to have fins like they do and not very long like this fish.

This fish will also get picked on by other fish because their slowness and weight of the fins.

It's real, at least according to another site (can't name it here). It sounds like SA is going to try to breed this mutation into their various strains.

Yup. It was only a matter of time. Clowns have become the new saltwater guppy/goldfish. Can't wait for the oranda clowns to hit the market.

Yeah looks unnatural and kinda depressing to me. Why do we have to take something beautiful on its own and mess with it by overbreeding. Now if he was breed to fight disease /sickness that's a different story.

wonderful.....looks like another great Petco offering.....nice to see SA isn't in it for the money only.....

I disagree that this is unnatural. To be honest, it's not as if it's that easy to generate something like this artificially. Well it's possible, but it'd be more believable if it's exactly as SA says - it's a genetic mutation.

Which happens all the time, and if someone breed as many Clownfish as SA, they're bound to find this, or something else caused by a random mutation eventually.

It's actually very natural for this to occur.

Well yes, I guess it's possible that such a mutation can cause issues, perhaps by making them swim slower - resulting in either being outcompeted, or killed by predators.

Yes, it's not natural for it to survive, I guess. Lucky for this one, it was breed in a glass tank.

And well, we all keep fish in glass boxes so... can't really say anything about it. @_@ If we want it to be natural we better all toss Lionfish into our fish tanks, and let them eat up our fish. Because that's what's happening on the coast. :) (Of America)

Valid point.... But lion fish our not natural to our coast here in fl. They are kept in check by the natural predators in indo/pacific. Those predators don't exist here or haven't adapted to eating them yet. Just my .02 for conversation.

This is awful IMO. I don't like over breed Betta, Gold fish, long fin Koi,.....
Just like Koi and Betta fighting fish, a perfectly nice body shape, why added the long fins to them.
Wild Betta fighting fish is a beautiful, colorful and lethal fish (to other male betta in a confine area). Much more beautiful than the most commonly know variance with the long fins.

True, true, it's actually only some parts of America.

And to be honest, they haven't came to Australia yet, so I can't really say too much. :P

But I guess what I want to point out is that this is hardly because of mankind. I mean well yes, it was from Clownfish that mankind breed, but is hardly a choice - more of a random occurrence that could have happened with any other our Clownfish.

Not arguing whether or not it looks nice or not, that's personal opinions. Just, well, it isn't exactly artificial what this fish is. :) It's just as possible to catch something like this from the sea - albeit probably really hard, as chances are something like this won't survive until this size in the wild, but hey, chances are high that something like this has existed before or exists right now in the wild.

Nice yeah totally agree with you.. It's "probably" why we are here today and in a way should be celebrated. But the same way snake heads exist in the Mississippi is the same reason lion fish exist here.. We brought them here and released them. They didn't migrate.

Guess it's a mute point for this thread. Not derailing, proceeded to over pay for silly clownfish. :-). (Half sarcastic font enabled)

Unnatural? The fact that the genetic material exists in the population of clowns makes it a very natural thing.

I would like to see a video to see how it looks swimming around. It might be really cool looking.
