+1 on a bigger space, we have out grown the vfw, every swap is packed. If not maybe more frequent swaps to even the load.
 
great swap, the sellers made it awesome. def need to figure out how to use the extra space and bigger ailses, i'm sure they will. it would be good to try to make the tanks viewable from at least 3 sides, maybe penisula the tables. either way i'll be back, its worth the trouble.:)
 
I wish I could have made it. But even not having been there, I have to say that there are some pretty harsh sounding posts here. Folks, it is real easy to cast stones. These things are not easy to organize, and it sounds like CMAS did a great job attracting a lot of people!

Give them a break ... the club is run by volunteers who put a lot of time and effort into events like these, and they are hobbyists, too. If you have constructive ideas or time and energy to volunteer, I am sure there are ways for you to participate.

I don't think anyone is saying it wasn't a fantastic event, it absolutely was. I had a great time and picked up some really nice LPS.

But half of the place was PACKED where it was difficult to move around, and the other half was mostly empty (tables for the presentation early on and lunch). Plus the fact that these concerns were raised before from previous events, and the layout stayed pretty much the same.
 
great swap, its cramp but ive been to other swaps including gcca and the all animal expo, they are all packed like that. i agree with ostrow, looking forward for the next one.

:thumbsup:Awwww, thanks Joel for the nice comments! Those of us who work our butts off to provide a nice event really appreciate the thanks, cuz that's all we get!

For those of your who just want to bash us for not making it perfect, you are very, very :sad1: welcome to stay home next time. That'll give more room for the rest of us.

Yes, there is definitely a power issue at the VFW, only a few places we can set up. This was better than the last one and we have some ideas on to to improve even more. We hear you about wanting more swaps and we hear you about wanting more room to walk around.

We will work with the VFW to come up with a better way to do it there. We won't likely be moving, as it is an acceptable drive for most of us, a large facility with lots of parking and at a reasonable cost. If soemone does find a place you think would be better, we will definitely consider it.

well like i said its an hour drive for me and well worth it. i would drive 2 hours for an event like this. the last swap i went to was in Milwaukee at the end of the summer and even though the place was very nice the swap was no where close to ours. we had more than enough pizza and the bar is a plus. the only complaint i have is the ATM it should of been unplugged because i went to it more than once :hmm3: and now have to wait to go get some clowns :( i wish we can do a swap at the shedd that would be awsome. what can we do to make that happen?

Keep that venue! It was crowded and we even ran out of parking at one point. I had to kind of make a space where I'm not sure there was one. I loved seeing so many people there even if it was packed. I like the more frequent swaps solution, but can't actually volunteer right now to help make that happen. Maybe the complainers can volunteer to host a summer swap closer to the metro to balance it out. Just as long as there's lots of free parking in a real parking lot. I don't want to circle neighborhoods for a half hour looking for street parking after driving an hour into the city.

Anyhow, bravo for another excellent swap!
 
I think it's actually fairly centralized, but it's impossible to make everyone happy. I had to drive 40+ min and this was all via highway (except via north ave, which is thankfully 3 lanes and 45 mph :)). I thought it was an awesome event and yes it was crowded, but if you don't like that, then stay home :)....Kudos to all the volunteers and the sellers who came (many from out of state which I was impressed with).
 
Whoever is in charge of such things at CMAS should give me a call. I might be able to help some with a bigger location. Maybe even with a separate lecture hall so the speakers don't interfere with set up, or vice versa.
