on a Nova Exteme 8x54w with the single reflector or go with UVL reflector combo?

If it's the single reflector version I'd get eh UVL reflector lamps.

Problem is if I started selling I would no longer be able to answer questions, slight conflict of interest there :fun2:

Grim,

You build and I will reco stuff for you! You just need to let people know that.

LOL it would be hard to walk in Grim's shoes! :blown:

Hello Grim, i have a 55 gallon "confused" reef that i was thinking about switching over to a mainly sps system. I have a 48'' nova extreme under single bulb refectors. The bulbs that i have now are the standard bulbs that came with the fixture but i was thinking of trying a purple, actinic, white, actinic combination when i change my bulbs over the next few months. Any thoughts on this/ bulb reccomendations would be appreciated.

Depends how many lamps you have. For 4 lamp as a Fiji Purple, ATI Aquablue and 2 Blue Plus and be careful where you put high light critters. For 6 use a UVL Actinic White, a GE 6500K Daylight with 4 ATI Blue Plus.

"some companies are stepping up"'

????

Who and when?

Thanks,

Todd

There is a really cool new modular fixture coming out, probably within the next four or five months, ATI has redesigned the Powermodule with a diming unit, should be available within a few months. There are a couple other new players in the T5 market as well, don't recall the names off the top of my head, Aquatic life systems has one.

thanks grim i have the 4 bulb fixture. I know this may sound like a noob question but what do you mean by watch where you put the higher light critters?

The area of high intensity is below the reflectors. Unless they are placed very high in the tank you need to have the high light critters below the reflectors.

Just to restate the obvious.
I am buying a 48" 6x54W Tek Light T5 High-Output Fixture w/ Bulbs from reefgeek.com. for the bulb combination I should order:

UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
ATI Aquablue
UVL Super Actinic
Ati Blue Plus

And this would give me a nice bright look, right?
Turn the first 2 bulbs at 10 am then the rest 2hrs later. Then reverse the process around 7pm?

Be OK. I personally don't run actinics any more but different strokes.

Hi Guys !

I purchased a 6x24W ati sunpower fixture.I want to make a SPS dominated tank and need your advices for the bulb arrangement.I have 2 ati blue+ , 1 blue special , 1 fiji purle , 1 aquascience blue , 1 aquascience special .

I can change the bulbs and buy another brands according to your advices.

Do you think that this fixture will be enough for the sps dominated tank with the sizes W:15.7" x L:24" x H:20"

Thanks ,

Hey Grim,

Is it possible to run two 4' T5 and two 4' VHO on one IceCap 660?

I'm going halide so no pastel colors on SPS, and VHO for actinic, but wanted to add a couple other color enhancers with T5.

Also, what two T5's would you add to help with reds and yellows?

Thanks,

Todd

Yes you can.

I would run a Blue Plus and a UVL 75/25 with the two VHO Actinics.

Hey grim,

I was wondering if you ever tested T5 pars of a set up and then retested them lets say 6 months later and which bulbs kept their par the longest. I know the ATI bulbs have the highest par out of the box but I was wondering what happens after 3-6 months of use.

I tested a Blue Plus against a Giesemann and they started out nearly equal after a 100 hour burn in, 2 months later the ATI had about a 8% advantage

ok, I guess I should just stick to my ATI bulbs. Also, I run icecaps so I want to have a fan blow across the ends right?

Do u know what a good fan thats least noisy. I bought a couple of the quiet Orions from reef geek but as soon as I installed them in my last canopy they made a LOT of noise. Also, whats the lowest I can put the reto fits to the water level?

4 inches above the water, don't know on the fans but larger lower speed fans tend to be quieter.
