Taking the Plunge

If you have an old net, or even pantyhose, you could wrap the Korallia to keep the anemone safe from being sucked in.

GREAT advice with the panty hose!!! My poor sick baby is right under my #3, and I have had it unplugged for 3 days. Only running 2 of them right now.

I believe it's best to have the same flow in the tank as turning back the Koralia on after the anemone settles in could bother it (depending on its location and the flow difference) and cause it to relocate again. I feel that regular feeding (once a week maybe) decreases the chances of it moving.
As for your back problems you should really take care of yourself and stop lifting those buckets. You could always pump the water directly from the tank to the drain and from the mixing container to the tank by means of a powerhead and a hose instead of carrying buckets of water. hope PT solves it.

The nem was ON THE MOVE today!

The clowns were really disoriented because she was practically upside down.

What I thought was going to be the RBTA's final destination...

But of course she doesn't want me to get too comfortable, and started to scoot toward the branching hammer. She got stung a couple of times.. and copy/pasting what I said on TSwifty's thread...

The nem puttered around the back of the rock that my Euphyllia ssp. are on, then decided to finally sit on the front of the rock where she was huge and gorgeous. It made me a bit queasy, though... and she confirmed my fears by trying to move UP the rock. She got too close to the branching hammer and kept getting stung, retracting her tentacles, obviously not having the capabilities to retain any infomation, and did it several more times. I fed her a silverside to try to slow her down and not travel into perilous territories. She gobbled down the silverside and then kept on trucking. I moved a smaller rock down by her foot in hopes of luring her down on it so that I could pull her away from the Euphyllia's. She's started moving down, but I'm not sure she's taking the bait. I hope she doesn't go back to cruising around and making me lose sleep on powerhead watch.

Her mouth

As you can see on the bottom of her in the above pictures, she is healing really nicely from her powerhead incident. She has healthy new tentacles growing back. Also, it seems like she wants to "bubble up" again. Oh, I hope I hope!

A video, trying to demonstrate how an anemone moves. It is SO neat to watch, but is a slow process.

I have a couple more "moving" videos uploading even slower than molasses moving uphill on a winter day.

I don't see any screens on the Korallias yet. Does that mean they are all turned off for now? Thanks for all the pictures and updates.

You can feed her a little less, she'll be fine. Food the size of a lima bean is plenty, as you don't want your anemone to excrete waste in the form of lumpy (uneaten) food. If you feed the right amount (in my humble opinion and my experience), you will never see the anemone poop.

great shots--the anemone sure looks healthy. That potters angel is beautiful.

You're right Marc, no screens on the Koralias yet. I went on a hunt for a good material for the task a week ago, through Home Depot and craft stores in the area with no luck. What I had done was move the powerheads well out of her range, as she seemed to be staying in the corner. This move was an unexpected development. I turned off the Koralia near her when I saw she moved, and ended up camping out, behind the Crocea. I have been keeping a close eye on her all day while she wandered around that rock.

I am leaving for the weekend and am really worried about her... Would shutting off my powerheads for two days be detrimental to the tank?

Also, that piece of silverside was less than half of a whole silverside. Is that too much? I don't feed her every week. And, honestly, I don't exactly eat Lima beans every day, so can you please give me a inch/cm measurement? Not to mention that the size of a bean is so variable and subjective. ;)

Thank you, Scott!

I've missed your influence around the clubhouse. Summer is definitely almost over. I start classes Monday-- then I'll be just as scarce around here.

You want flow in the tank because it provides good gas exchange in the tank. Any kind of sponge material you have hand from other powerheads might work. You might even find some Vortech sponges at your LFS perhaps, which might fit perhaps.

You can find lima beans at your grocery store, both the natural kind in produce or the canned kind in the canned veggies section. It is somewhat like the shape of a kidney bean or pinto bean, but slightly larger.

You need to eat more veggies. :D

LOL. I like the panty hose idea. When I was in Iraq we actually stuffed our laptop keyboard half in panty hose to keep sand/dust to a minimum. You can even buy black ones to make them match the power head. :)

Sorry for the off topic post but your comment reminded me of a comment made by a military guest speaker at a Business dinner I attended. He said that when they were stationed in Iraq they had fears that sand would damage the planes jet engines. When they opened the engines up for inspections they found that the engines never looked so clean because the sand was so fine, it was like talcum powder and it was like a mini sandblaster going through the engine with no damage being caused. The airfield would look really strange if all the jets had pantyhouse stretched over the engines.....lol

Thanks--I've tried to post as much as I can lately and I am sure I will be able to post more again---new job -new dog---new skimmer:D

I hope you will be able to continue to post---you say the most thoughtful things and your tank demonstrates that you have excellent ability in interior design---I am taking in all your ideas for the fall when I start to do some improvements in the display tank.

Scott
