I ordered "the package" for a 20 gallon tank. This is a 16x16x18" tank that sits next to the sump as an additional display. My plan is to use this tank as a seeding tank for the 100 gallon 48x24x20 that sits above it, and run it as a sort of display refugium/second reef.
I placed the order for the package on Richard's website Friday morning and expected to pick it up sometime next week. So I was quite surprised when Richard emailed and said he'll have it there tomorrow morning waiting for me at the cargo depot. Then I was VERY surprised when he said if I wanted I could even pick it up 8:30 pm the same night I placed the order! Literally 12 hours from clicking the submit button on his website!! Richard and I had an email dialogue of 8-10 emails by the time I went to go pick it up, he is very responsive.
8pm - I call the southwest cargo warehouse to confirm the packages are there ready to pick up. We're good to go. On the way to the airport (20 min from my house) a huge thunderstorm is brewing over the airport, and by the time I get there, the lightning is just overhead. The southwest worker handed me the metal cart with my 70 lb boxes on it and says "you're on your own pal, I ain't going out there!" haha, thanks a lot!
I was home by 8:45pm. My first email from Richard was 9:21 am! Well done, sir!
Superb packaging. The rock was bundled in these very thick plastic bags. We call them recovery bags at my work, because if we break a 50lb bag of fertilizer, you can scoop it up and put it one of these no problem (I work for an agricultural fertilizer distributor). They're not cheap either.
Box of rocks, including 4 nicely shaped rocks with real evidence of them being from the ocean!
Bag o' sand. Including a stowaway that my daughter is very fond of: an urchin.
I didn't do the best job of removing the silt from the sand, and I paid for it with a very cloudy tank
The aftermath of a reefer's Christmas day. Though, maybe this is more of Christmas eve, and Christmas day comes as part II next week. My wife doesn't know her backside is on Reef Central, but she photographs well enough :lol2:
I'll snap some more photos when I get a good aquascape going with a clear tank. I'm not registering any ammonia, and haven't seen any bad guys yet. Just an urchin, two hermit crabs, several snails, and various feather dusters and filter feeders. Tomorrow I will build an acrylic mount to keep my AI Hydra several inches off the water and then we can start watching!
