Tang is thin...Worm? Parasite? How to act?

I have been feeding heavily over the past month and my Kole tang simply will not gain weight.

I had her in QT for 4 weeks and did Prazipro.

Did I mess up somewhere and something snuck through? She was healthy in QT.
She still eats fine, but won't gain weight.

What do you guys suggest the best course of action would be?

What are you feeding? Are you adding a vitamin supplement like selcon? I've had the best luck bulking up tangs with algae strips either in a veggie clip or rubber banded to a rock that way they can graze all day.

Are you seeing any stringy white poop? Prazi is not as effective treating intestinal parasites, as it is gill flukes. You'd have to treat (or soak in food) metronidazole for that.

If you don't have a lot of algae for the Kole to graze on, you'll need to supplement daily. I give my foxface (also a grazer) nori every day. He usually consumes it within an hour or two.

I'm going to order some supplements. Any general favorites?

Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem. However, if you take a close look at these products, fish oil is either listed near or as the top ingredient. So, you can just soak Omega 3 & 6 fish oil in the food (props to Paul B). However, the latter has a stronger smell than Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem, and it can last awhile. I typically only use fish oil right before going to bed.

Not sure vitamin supplements will do anything to help put on weight - though they won't do any harm. I have a leopard wrasse like this. He eats most of what I add, but remains quite thin. Not really sure why. For your tang, you could also try the new era feeding rings. My tangs go for it with enthusiasm.

My Kole gets FAaaat on frozen PE mysis. Maybe try this instead of mysis flakes. Along with any green seaweed. Which you feed.
Prazipro didn't help with my chromi stringy poo (2x treatment). He could eat like a pig and gain no weight. Metro solved my problem. And I was soaking frozen food with selcon.

That's one skinny looking Kole..

I was thinking in fish roe........

I just start to study fish roe.........as fish food............

So..........I don´t know much about the long term use of this kind of food.......

???

Its a seasonal item in the Nature..........

Many fish species follow spawning events...........to eat the eggs........as well as other vertebrates such Birds and mammals...............

Maybe fish eggs help the Tang gain some weight faster.......

???

But a nice thing is to hear other oppinions about the use of fish roe..........from more experienced people..............

Banana is a good food too.........full of substances............

Been a few weeks feeding extra along with more algae (that ends up gettin blown around even though I rubberband it to the rock) and not much weight gain if any.

I just ordered Selcon, Kent Marine Zoe vitamin, Formula 2 flakes and Hikari algae wafers.

Are there any internal parasite treatments that I can soak the food in that might help? What is the Metro?

Metro = metronidazole. You can add it to food. National Fish Pharmaceuticals also makes a product called Paracide-X that is effective against internal parasites.

Is the fish eating? These fish graze on algae all day long... they need a lot of food to get fat. If your tank does not have much algae you need to feed heavily... is the fish eating the nori? If you ordered the large hikari wafers I suggest soaking them them for 1/2 hour for the first couple of feedings. For reference my kole eats 2 of the large hikari wafers a day plus a small piece of nori about the size of 2 quarters and also grazez on algae that's on the rocks/glass all day. If the fish is eating like that and not gaining weight then I would try the medication... if he is just eating a couple of small pellets and not grazing then he probably doesn't like the food. My kole is picky and will not eat the meaty foods/flakes or small pellets. I hope your fish gets better and the algae wafers work.

I got some Hikari wafers today.

In comparison to yours, mine is not eating that quantity. He wont touch nori at all. He picks (barely) at brown algae sheets, wont eat red or green. I like these wafers and at least I have a rough food quantity goal now. I can soak a wafer and use one in the AM one in the PM. He eats formula 1 flakes, mysis and nls pellets without hassle.

I also picked up frozen formula 1, frozen formula 2 and another omnivorous frozen meal. Variety is probably good anyway.

If you soak the wafers it helps the fish eat them and get a taste.. once they taste those they go crazy for them. After the fish eats a couple then just drop them in dry and the fish will graze on the wafer. I prefer to buy the larger wafers better because they take a while to decompose. Keep us posted...
