Tangs afraid to come out. I want them to be happy

Hey guys! I have a couple of tangs, a yellow one and a scopas, both presents of my girlfriend. I've had them for more than a year now but they are still afraid to come out when I am in the room. I know these fishes go through a whole lot of trauma from the moment they are captured, but all the fishes I've had usually lost this fear within the first couple of months. Do you have any kind of advice to offer me?

Thanks!

They usually acclimate much sooner than a year. Do you have other fish in tank? If not try a few Cardinals as they stay out in the open and may make your Tangs feel comfortable in the open when you are in room. Do your Tangs come out at feeding time?

Thanks for your answer James. I will try that; they do get out when I feed them but as fast as possible to get back to hiding as long as I am in my room. The most strange thing is that I have a blue tang and a chromis and they don´t seem to mind my presence.

You could also try some algea sheets. Stick it to the sides at first. When they get comfortable move it to the front glass. Good luck.
