and i'm sure you've had that avatar prior to the '04 series. funny though, that the mighty sox nation is now looking up in the east and resorting to bickering with the lowly rays and one fifth the payroll.
look, i'm not claiming that you were not a fan before the series victories. it isn't as though the sox were flirting with 100 losses per year when the sox fans "kept going to our games faithfully". bandwagons are a part of sports. it is more fun when "your team" wins. most fans, outside of the extreme ones, will not go out 30 - 40 times a year to watch a team get knocked around. argue with me if you choose. be a sox fan, raise more sox fans who have to fly into logan, provy, or bradley to catch thier squad. it doesn't matter to me, quite frankly. love the sox... but realize you are on a bandwagon. you might think you are toward the front, but you are on it.
as to the rays remarks... yes, new england has more history than florida and boston more than tampa bay. the rays are in year eleven and the sox play in a stadium so old that it pre-dates most building materials and was put together with rivets. what does matter however, they have a ton of talent. young talent. the new ownership has been locking up these guys long term one by one. i dont think you should hold your breath on any years like the first ten any time soon. but either way as long as i live here and can find time, i'll be there.
quick story- last weekend i was at "the greatest bar" in boston across from the fleet center and was talking with a buddy. he kept going with the trite line of calling evan longoria eva. "you mean eva longoria?" everytime i said his name. my response " brotha, call him eva all you want. he's 22, rakes the ball, is gold glove calibur at 3b and he just signed a 9 year deal. he's gonna be kickin chowd-a$$ for years! i'd hate him too." (al rookie of the year)
in closing, i'm just thilled to be able to get off the couch drive less than 30 minutes and see great baseball (lord knows i've seen the polar opposite). 22 games over .500, thats something i want to support. if you, or anyone else for that matter, would rather fly 1300 miles to sit and cheer in your team's home park, have at it.
sorry, some people cant help but rant in defense of faois, but for me its my young, often bullied, ten and a half year old baseball club. i hope to see the wagon continue to swell sunday at 1:40 watching mlbs best!
GO RAYS!! .... now back to the tangs.
payyourtoll- will your tang be nice enough to sign an autograph for my godson?
