Tank crashed. Lost everything.

Jesus Lord Almighty. Sorry to hear. This seems to be going on a lot lately. I'm not sure if it's more common this time of the year or what. But things are going tough in this area with tanks. Hopefully you know or can find out the reason behind it.
 
A pump went bad and electrocuted my tank. Guess i should of put that ground probe in that i have somewhere. I have learned much from this. Getting electrocuted sucks and i was really attached to my fish and corals(RIP little buddies). Glad today is a new day. Hopefully i can get back up and running today. I already did a 50% water change yesterday. Im gonna do another later on today. Im waiting on RO water. At this point all i care about is saving the bristle-worms that i see ever where. lol. I wanna get my tank clean for a while and let all settle before i add anything. I guess i can re-stack my tank now and not have to worry about stressing anything out. Thank you everybody for the sincere condolences. It means alot!
 
I don't have any of your old corals (I don't think), but if you see something you like in my tank, I'll give you a frag when you're ready. A total loss is horrible. Keep us updated.
 
So sorry to hear about that. Having just gone down this path I know it stinks. Lets see some pictures of your re-build once you get it rolling. Again sorry to hear about your fish..
 
sorry to hear about ur tank, but more so for you being electrocuted, i think you should install a GFCI it probably will help... what pump brand was this anyways?
 
Even better to hear that you're ok after a run in with some stray current. Youch!!

When I did my tank move I found 2 maxi jets and 2 stealth heaters that were giving off stray voltage. I had been experiencing some color loss in my LPS and that cleared up shortly after those devices came off line. I can't be certain that other conditions didn't have an impact, but now stray voltage is something that I regularly check for with a volt meter.

Before i disclose what kind of pump it was i need to test them all. However, does anyone know how i can? I live in an old apartment and have no gfi. I will be setting up a separate panel box for my tank soon. Should put everything on gfi other then Lights correct?

Today starts a new chapter for me in this hobby. It feels like a new beginning. I am lucky to have friends that i do in this club. Thank you everyone for everything. I am not bitter in the least about what happened. all i can do now is keep my eyes a little more opened as well as my mind. I
 
I thought you want multiple gfci circuits. This way if a pump would trip the breaker, you wouldn't loose power to everything else
 
If you happen to know an electrician they may have a megger meter to test ohms you could also try a gfci plug from lowes/home depot they use them on extension cords for construction sites that dont have them yet. If you need I know where I could borrow a megger meter but it would be a few days before I could get my hands on it. Sorry for your loss!! and I am with nirvanafan on frags if your interested.
 
You can measure ohms with any multi-meter. I have 2 laying around. The problem with some of those construction gfi's is that it has to be reset if the power is disconnected. So, if the power would go out when you are not home, your tank would not have power until someone pushed the reset button.
