Tank-O-death

I just found this tank online and posted in my local club forum on how gorgeous the tank was.

They responded on the post and told me this.

THat totally blows dude. wow there are no words to express what I am feeling.

It is such a beautiful tank, I would take a road trip just to see the whole setup.

Spectrapure makes a unit that does 300gpd, kent has one that does 600gpd. just a thought

That is the rated GPD, it doesnt mean it will push out that much in a day. does it?

Steve, once again you don't know me but your tank is what gave me a direction and a goal in reefkeeping. A model of what i'm always aspiring for. I'm just sick to my stomach over this. I'm always saying everythings o.k., but it's just not steve weasts tank. Your integrity is amazing, my sps tank is nothing special by any means, but if I did this, I probably would give up the hobby.
You are truly an inspiration.

btw, I believe tunze makes a low level shutoff device

You dont know me as well, but I have showed your tank pics to countless friends and family telling them all about the "Oregon Reef."

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss and I know that a person like you will turn this around and your story will be an even more inspiration to countless thousands.

Some may say it's just corals, but I say I am praying for you.

I've always admired your spectacularly clean and beautifully aquascaped tank. I'm truly sorry to hear of this disaster. Best of luck with the recovery. I hope your local reefers will help you out with some sweet new frags.

I can't wait for the rebuild Steve. I'm confident it'll be 10,000 times better than the first tank. Ten-stinkin'-Thousand times!

Chris LeDoux was my inspiration into country music, likewise, your original 500g and now 850g was an inspiration into full blown reefs. Chin up!!

I’m so sorry to hear about your terrible loss.:(
I think it is very good practice to have a decent amount of premixed seawater on hand at all times, not only when needing to do a water change. Like you, I also have a make up container but when ever doing a water change I will immediately refill the container and mix salt so that I can perform an emergency water change if need be. This is not only helpful for a water loss incident, as in your case, but any water quality problems that may suddenly arise. My tank was saved from a total wipe out not to long ago when I came home to find a dead bird in my tank!! I did lose some sps but as I was able to do an immediate water change I was able to limit the damage.
My make up container is also directly plumped to my sump. It has a pump re-circulating the water at all times and I only need to open a ball valve to empty its contents into my sump. Here’s a pic

Looking forward to watching you rebuild your amazing reef

I commend you for your positive attutude all things considered. Myself would have probably looked for the closest bridge to jump off. Keep your head up buddy. :(

Your tank was an inspiration for me and many others, i have shown your site to many friends and said that someday i'd wish my tank could come to resemble what you have achieved.

Very sorry for the loss Steve.

Looking forward to see you build up even greater again and also staying hopeful of seeing more of your coldwatertanks in the future.

Was browsing thru liveaquaria's Divers Den and stumbled upon this coldwater trunkfish and thought that maybe you'd be interested in it. http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?ddid=18377&siteid=20

Well anyway, keep the spirit up and get busy rebuilding! :)

Steve,
I've followed your threads from the beginning of your 500g reef tank years ago. You inspired me to build a 300g reef. Treat this situation as an opportunity. I can't wait to see what you come up with! Many thanks for sharing all your experiences.

Sorry for your loss man!

That tank has been a great inspiration source for many saltwater entusiast up here on the mountain.

Trust me when i say that you will come around again. It has happend to me to a couple of times, and i always comes back again after a peptalk form my fellow aquarians. Just hang in there bro.

Best regards JR

That sucks! Been there though. went on vacation and had what I though was a competent friend who was going through a divorce staying at my house to watch things. He dissapeared on a drinking binge for a week and the housemaid called after that week to say "Your fish tank is making a funny noise and I can't see in it!" Lights had run 24/7 literaly and sump had run dry. Lost it all. and algae was so thick you couldn't see in it. One clown survived.

When you are ready post here and I know a few of us here in Phoenix will help you out and send you a package of at the least SPS frags and some rics. I've always liked the name Phoenix maybe the new tank should be named such.

Thanks everyone again for your kind sentiments and generous offers. I'll post a few pics next week after replacing some rock. I never had a pic of just the rocks from my "OLD" system....so, at least for this new one, I'll have some. Of course, it isn't all rocks....there are still quite a few LPS and anemones in there.

Steve- It is not the good times that shows the real character of a person, but when he humbes himself .

Thank You for you honesty and inspiration. There are a few of us in Sac that could also send you a care package;)
