No, I have not noticed that I clean the acrylic any more than I did with other tanks. Excess algae growth is driven by high nutirent levels, rather than high light levels.
I have used carbon dosing (vodka) to help keep nutrient levels down. I recently tried to keep non-photosynthetic corals which require large amounts of food. The vodka helped me to control the excess phosphates and nitrates.

Let me say that I've been in the hobby a long time and have enjoyed watching all the advances in reefkeeping. I must say that your tank is proof of your dedication. AWESOME JOB OF MIXING THINGS UP! I'm pumped up about 2009! way to wrap up 2008 RC!

Good question, and occasionally I ask myself the same thing. Once in a while I stop dosing and look for changes, and then start again and look. I first began to dose because I read in the chemistry forum here that Randy Holmes-Farley doses iron in his system. I also try to keep the water chemistry as close to natural sea water as I can. That's hard because the test kits we have available to us are not the greatest. Anyway, besides helping any macro I might have in my tiny sump refugium, I noticed that the gonipora and alveopora do better when I dose the iron. This could be coincidental and is not proof, but no harm comes from the iron dosage so I continue to dose. I have used different products and have not seen any difference between them yet.

The only spawning I've witnessed is the clams. And what a mess. When that happens I use a diatom filter with lots of powdered carbon for a few hours to clean up the water. The last time it happened, some friends from the Boston Reefers where coming to take some pics. Just as they walked in the door, woosh, a cloudy tank. The tank does get moonlight so I suppose a spawning event is possible.

No issues with your shrimp/clams/etc turning into lunches?
If your answer is no can you elaborate a bit on how come?
I don't know much about the triggers except for being sucked into saltwater keeping initially by the picasso trigger only to discover that it was reef safe!
I obviously moved on but still find triggers amazing

Bluejaws and crosshatch triggers are reported to be reef safe. Of course there is always the possibility for a bad apple in the bunch. My two are model citizens and have not bothered anything. They are two of my most favorite fish in the tank. The male is like a puppy dog. The female is very shy.
