Can you tell me what media you are using in the Schuran calcium reactor?

RGibson - I use the large stuff, in the past I have used the schuran, Genx but in the last year I have been getting it in bulk from my LFS.

Perry, thank you very much for the kind words, I remember you from Don's it was nice talking with you guys had a great time I remember you being very knowledgable:thumbsup: Maybe I will see you at one of the TBRC meetings soon. Take care

Emmet,
the monti looks very natural off the frag plug, maybe we have a new mutated species on hand.... again, great work, husbandry, skill, knowledge, and overall attention to detail... I will bother you for a frag one of these days when I actually make it over to see this masterpiece 1st hand....

That's interesting. I use ROD's like 1x/week b/c I thought it was important for all that diff. size food to be in the column.. mainly for corals. So you don't do anything but flake (some sorta meat/green mix?) and mysis. I also noticed a lot of these TOTM will have a lot of Tangs (which you are light on), which help feed through their waste. So you don't add anything but "fish" food and that takes care of the nutrition for all your corals?? Also have to consider that you feed everyday though.

The monti-mix is a great idea but... why not mix some of the blue/purple monti in there too?

I really don't think the corals keep them down at all. I do believe my feeding habits do though. I feed flake that stays suspended in the water so the fish can eat all of it. I also feed the big PE mysis and rinse it before feeding. I'm not a big fan of all the chopped up frozen foods that have very small pieces that get lost in the tank.

Yes I feed everyday, feeding Rods once a week is not a big deal to worry about. I do have one tang in my 90 and one in the 40 and would not recommend keeping any more then that in this small a tank. Thats all I do is just feed the fish flake and mysis(for the copperband) If I did not have a copperband I would probably only feed flake.

MONTIPORAS

MONTIPORAS

I READ YOUR ARTICLE ON THE TOTM. NICE FREAKING JOB DUDE. IM INTERESTED IN TRYING TO FRAG THE VARIOUS MONTIPORAS JUST LIKE YOU BUT I NEED SOME ADVICE OR TIPS. HOW DO YOU DO THAT? DO YOU JUST CLIP PIECES OFF THE SPS AND GLUE OR IS THERE A TRADE SECRET? PLEASE HELP. JUST GOT INTO FRAGGING AND WOULD LOVE SOME HELPFUL TIPS BEFORE I END BUTCHERING ANYTHING. THANKS

i love your tank.how do you make those acros glow that way wow.

The two most important things to do IMO is getting the right photo period (Not to much and not too little) and keeping the water parameters as stable as possible especially the alk.

I just glued them down to a disc, there is really no way you can mess it up.

I have tried many different colored caps to try and get them to do the same thing these two are doing and could not get them to bond like these two. I don't mean to discourage people from trying this (I think its a good idea) but I also don't want people killing there cap frag they just spent a lot of money on. I have to frag my caps on a regular basis and sometimes its hard for me to get rid of things so I was able to try a lot of different colors at the expense of just my time. I have seen my other caps, encrusting montis and digi's grow together and even swirl together but they do not bond like these two I have, these two(peach and green) actually become one, one does not start taking the other over. In one of the pics you can see were two of my encrusting montis are actually touching but the purple haze is growing and killing the reverse sunset. In fact I'm going to have to stop it this weekend so I don't end up losing the reverse sunset.

the tank is beautiful. Its nice to see a 90g TOTM. I'm currently setting up a 90g myself and your tank is a definite motivator.

Thanks. :) I'm all better now. If I wasn't, you'd still be waiting for the magazine to release. :D

I really enjoyed all of your pictures as I assembled the page. You have a beautiful tank, and it was very nice to feature a 90g. The Staff and Team RC members get feedback often about what type of tank is selected, and a beautiful tank like yours really helps balance the playing field. ;)

gasman059 - Yes it is a conical with a aquabee needlewheel pump. Yes it is similar to the new I-tech skimmers, I believe this is one of the first one's made.

The first two years on this tank I had a Euroreef CS8-2 I believe it was called. This skimmer was hard to adjust and skimmed just okay. My next skimmer was a Tunze 9020, very good skimmer and very easy to get it to skim I never had to touch the thing and still have it, probably going to use it again. Really not to impressed with the build quality of it and it is very expensive for what you get. Had the Tunze on this tank for about a year and a half. I have had this cone skimmer on the tank for about 6 months and its the best skimmer I have had yet, really happy with it and if I ever upgrade to a bigger tank I will just buy another because I like the bubble action on the small.
