tank problems

I already have a protein skimmer and light adequet for corals. Also how can i turn off the lights in the aquarium if I have corals.

Don't worry about the lights and the corals, they will be fine; unless they are already under extreme stress.

Just think about the corals in the wild they often have many days of cloudy weather and see little to no sun. I've done the three days lights out and if you search for it on these forums many people regularly incorporate it into their husbandry; often doing it once every 1-3 months.

As for the skimmer, I was just emphasizing the importance of having a good and properly working one.

ok this thread is moving too fast here. lets start over and slow it down i cant keep up with all of this.
so you have a tank with aglae
good bioload mius the tang.
a bad LFS no RODI
a berlin fiter
a filter sock
messed up skimmer( whats the brand)
cyno
low water movement
thinking about restarting

ok is that all of it.

what is your light would whould probaly need MH lights if you have the standered 55
also i wouldent add anycorals for a few months like i said in my last post

Not sure of the name, but it is 4 T-5 High output lights. 2 Daylight, 1 Blue, 1 Purple. Sorry forgot the names of the colors

im dizzy:eek1: hahahah ok so lets start lowing this list down i would get some paper and a pen to right it all down.

nothings wrong they just have a low par. and their isent enough bulbs. its possibal to keep zoas and lower light at the top but not for a while after we get this all fixed

My hard corals appear to be fine. Why do you say there are not enough bulbs.

and blues dont do much for light its more of a looks thing. i dont know they could work i have never used them so i cant talk too much like i know all about them. now that im loking them up they look ok for some corals but thats not ur concern first we need to solve the cuno problem

Whats wrong with the T-5s

I'd say that is fine for most soft corals but you won't really be able to keep most LPS ( depending on the species you might get away with an LPS or two close to the top, not recommended though) and definitely no SPS.

I personally have an outdated 4- 65w PC (power compact) system and my mushrooms, green star polyps, leathers and zoanthids are healthy and multiplying very nicely.

the light an wait. first you need to fix the algae problem. like quickwiz00 said, you need to shut off the lights for 3 days, buy another powerhead, get a GFO reactor (or phosban) and either fix the skimmer or buy a new one

+1 This is your best plan of action in my opinion. Also add to that; minimizing nutrients by cleaning your filter sock frequently, increasing your water changes and rinse your frozen foods with RODI water.

Do this and you should definitely see an improvement in your tanks health. And be sure to only top off and do water changes with RODI.

i would just buy a new on. that skimmer isent a very good one i think. yes i would do a lights out for 3 days this has to be no light at all even the lights in the room you could cover the tank with blankets but make sure the heater is off. no light at all can hit the tank or it will defeat the purpose.
you will need atleast 1650 GHP of flow for a 30x turnover rate. and thats a good rate for softcoarls too. also to get rid of the cyno.
