Tank upgrade --> 300 Gallon Marineland Project

I have heard that those have done that. I am currently running dual probes via PX1000. Still haven't figured out the programming through to run them in conjunction.

Controllers are great, however, situations like this is their biggest pitfall, if they fail, they fail big.

I was thinking of running half my heaters on a backup temp controller and half with the AC3.

I am going to start looking for one in the used equipment section too. I have a Ranco I could set up for this purpose but it is already assigned to another function in my operation.

Doesn't always seem like there is something? About a month ago I thought I could go on cruise control. Somehow that is not reflected on my wallet.

I think it is time for a seperate indenpendant temperature contoller.
Sorry to hear that. I've sort of been coming to the same conclusion. I had a power spike zap my AC3 memory and scramble my program (luckily I caught it in time). After that happened I'm now looking into splitting off a number of the responsibilities so that if my AC3 goes down again... it won't nuke my tank.

The shame of it is that I purchased the AC3 to get rid of all the extra devices. :rolleye1:

I snapped a few pictures with my Ipad the other day. I figured I would share some of the changes.

I added onto my water filter last fall. I wasn't getting the output from my RO unit that I was looking for. I added a pressure pump, auto membrane rinse solenoid, two liquid filled pressure gauges and 1/2" feed line to the filter. I am very happy with this set up. Once I run out of filter cartridges. I will probably change to the 20" canisters for more longevity between cartridge changes.

I changed out my skimmer. I downsized to a Vertex 250 internal.

How do you like the tank? That tank is my dream upgrade. It is going to be a few years before I can pull it off (lots of negotiations with the wife) but that is what I am shooting for.

Mike,
What do you dose your water with to get that crazy growth that you always get? Also what salt are you running?

For a non-custom tank they are pretty nice. The only draw backs I have found are the overflows and the black silicone has faded around the bottom of the tank. The overflows can't handle high volume flow without being modified. The water level the rises and you can see the cross bracing in the top of the tank from the front panel. It isn't a big issue, but it is worth mentioning.

Hey Dan,

There isn't anything special in the water. I use plain old Reef Crystals. I use a calcium reactor and Kalkwasser mostly. I did let my levels get to low a while ago after my co2 tank went empty. I have been using sachem two part for the past few months trying to get my levels back up to where they should be. The standard calcium of 400, alk at 7-8 DKH and PH at 8.1 - 8.4.

Looking great Mike. I won't lie, it was your tank that inspired my 300 build.

I don't know if I should respond with a thank you or I'm sorry. I'm leaning toward the thank you since you had a big tank before you got your 300. I hope others find positive inspirations from this build as well. I know there have been a lot of lessons learned from this tank. Bigger is not always better in this hobby.
