Tank upgrade --> 300 Gallon Marineland Project

Yeah, its a bit fuzzy but looks like its where the bead thins out? Is it possible you may have gotten under the edge with a razor blade?

I've only ever used the plastic acrylic scrappers. I can't imagine thats what it is from. I can't get a good clear picture of it.

Hmmm, I have a few bubbles in mine that made me nervous. I marked the glass where they stopped to keep an eye on them. So far they haven't moved. I'll give mine a close once over to see if there are any yellow areas.

Slow day here at the office so I figured I would throw out some updates.

I have had 3 tangs in my QT tank for the past month. Everyone had been doing great. I went downstairs last night and saw my white cheek tang was hovering low to the bottom of the tank. It was always the first to come out from behind the privacy curtain (towel) I placed over half the tank. The naso would nip at the white cheek every now and again. So, I started to check water parameters and everthing was fine. I decided to pull an all nighter and get the naso and blue morpho out of the QT. I started acclimating around 8 last night. I was up every 2 hours checking on the fish to ensure the drip rate stayed steady and my air line was secure in the bucket. The fish were transfered into the display tank at 7 this morning. I hope they do well in their new home. The white cheek didn't seem to be improving at all this morning. I don't feel confident I am going to get home to a swimming fish today. It's real depressing to loose fish. It hasn't died yet, but I can usually tell when the outcome is inevitable.

I'm starting to think I can't trust buying live stock from hardly anywhere these days. I have never had this many fish go so quickly in all my years of this hobby. Guess I'll start watching the FS posts like a hawk for fish that have been in tanks for a while already.

Man that sucks. For what its worth, I have had similar issues in the past. Since, I have drastically reduced the amount of time I acclimate to about 20-30 min, I have found the mortality rate to be much less, especially with larger fish. I think the stress of being confined gets to them.

I called my wife and she reported the all the fish are still swimming. I was suprised to hear the white cheek tang was out and about. Say a few prayers for the litte fish.

On another positive note. After 6 months of looking BRS web site I ordered a single and dual carbon / GFO kit. I'm hoping to find the time to get all the pre-work done for them this weekend. So that when they come in all I have to do is screw the mounts to the wall and fill. Since so many of you local guys already have these media holders I have a question.

Should I be able to feed all three canisters with a single maxi jet 1200? I have an iwaki 20 laying around that I could install too to feed them. My thoughts were that the head pressure and back pressure may be to much to keep the GFO boiling. Any suggestions out there?

Good news, the gold rim/ white cheek tang is swimming around like nothing ever happened. Weird.... I guess the prayers turned things around.

I don't know who or what I ****ed off in the fish tank world. While cleaning my skimmer yesterday I snapped off a shaft in one of the skimmer impellers. There is a 100.00 to replace it. Two days ago my new blue morpho came up missing. Now my medium sized gold rim tank is gone today. I am at my wits end with this tank. I am so ready to post it all for 2000 and let someone carry it all off. The only thing I can imagine is eating the fish is my blue carpet anemone. It is pretty swollen up at the moment. There is a possibilty the gold rim is in it. I figured the fish would be to large and it would be sticking out if that had happened.

I am in a true state of disgust with this hobby right now.....

Had to vent but its still not helping.

Sorry to hear that, just keep your head up I was just there a few months ago. Yeah Carpet nem are prone to eat fish.

Dude, I feel your pain. Sometimes this hobby feels like you're juggling jello. I went a couple of days not messing with the tank to discover some pH issues and excessive PO4 which is contributing to a massive green slime algae outbreak so its always something.

The last few additions I put in didn't fair well either. Sometimes I wonder if it would be more satisfying to put dollar bills directly in the toilet.

Hang in there Mike.

I would think a MJ 1200 would work on 3 BRS canisters. I have 2 and I use a MJ 600 and it works fine. The valve is about 3/4 of the way open. HTH

Thanks Keith,

I have the canisters sitting on my bench. I tried to figure out how I want to connect them together. I'll give the MJ a try and see what happens.
