Tanks with LEDs...

tanks all look great. i'm hoping to soon convert my 180 gallon freshwater to saltwater. i'd love to have led but its 36 inches deep. will the led's penetrate that deep with enough intensity?

It really depends if the fixture has optics to focus the light. I have a buddy who has the Acan Lighting fixture and his tank is about 36" tall. He doesn't have any SPS but all of his softies/LPS are doing okay.

This acro is going like crazy and the colors are great. It's 24" from my Ecoxotic fixture.

Ecoxotic makes a "cannon" that I've seen used for 3'+ deep tanks.. it's obviously mounted higher than the fixtures shown here.. (maybe 18"-20") but depending on the footprint, you could use one or two of them..

and yes.. they'll penetrate like.. well... a cannon..

My humble little 5G pico at its peak under DIY LED (5x CREE XP-G CW/4x XP-E RB). The LEDs are only driven at about 7W total but I'm keeping Acropora in this tank happily now.

They have the 50w out right now, which are round. They have also just released (or will be releasing soon) a 100w version that has oval lenses (better for rectangular tanks). Google "ecoxoic 100w cannon" and look at the RB link.

Anyone with a 72" tank with LEDs? I'm looking to upgrade from my 3 - 250w MH to LEDs. I was thinking of getting the 72" package from reefgeeks which includes 6 AI modules with the controller for $3,300. I just want to see how they look before jumping on something like this.

These look real nice, and price seems reasonable(surprisingly @ $500 each)

Thats a lot of $ for a light! I wonder how comprable a DIY fixture would be. I am also looking at LED's for my 210g. But i have a 3x250W with 4x96W CF that i just got new super cheap so I'm thinking of trading up when i get everything going.

What Fixture is this?

This is a DIY kit that was mini produced by a local LFS. It was designed to test in the store and there was a lot of interest so they starting building them for clients. This was made about 1.5 years ago, they have since developed a newer generation which is sleeker and each head uses 3x50watt LED instead of 14X3watt. Less heads, less wires, sleeker look. I picked these up used with the aquarium, the LFS still uses these lights on their display tanks with a lot of success.
