Tansu inspired mixed reef & Haddoni:Clown setup

i just read through your build Kathy and WOW, you are amazing. I hope your new tank is nothing less than you expect. Your stand is breath taking. Jimmy

Lucked out and Jimmy, thank you very much! I hope it's just a short delay.

9iron and henley: Henley, you are right. I wanted to work it out with Elos first. I will post more later, but I am confident it will be fine and resolved shortly.

:beer::beer::beer:

(or wine if thats your liking)
And that is a novel thing to do.
Elos is a top notch company, and i am sure it was overlooked and they will make things right.
(and if the tank can be retrofitted with what was not included, then that is a plus because the tank is on this side of the country, and you would only have to wait for drying/curing/fixing time.)

Yep, I agree they are a stand out company. I spoke with Jesse today and we will get this worked out quickly.

Here are some pictures of the tank. It's beautiful. As I go along I will point out the things that I wanted and what we are going to do.

Here is a whole tank pic, I got 3 sides low iron, and you can see the back is markedly different than the crystal clear sides and front. I wanted a black background and pointed that out. Thankfully that is an easy fix.

I asked for eurobracing and pointed that out. The reasons for bracing are 1) the canopy was built to sit on eurobracing so has a lip and 2) I'm a HEAVY leaner.

Here is a picture of one side of the overflow. There are two large holes to fit Tunzes perfectly into them, thereby hiding the powerheads. I wanted them staggered vertically, but instead there are right next to each other. I also wanted large slots for the closed loop intake and it was supposed to be card slot style (meaning I can slide it out and clean it).

This picture shows one of the seams and the glass. There was nothing to point out in this picture, I'm just including it to show the seams and glass.

Now the resolution:

Actually, the tank builders thought they were doing a good thing by making it rimless. Because of the size of the tank and the height, they created a rimless tank for me thinking it would look nicer and I would be happily surprised. And after seeing the pictures, I agree. Given how 'simple and clean' this tank looks, there were a lot of details that they were able to pack in there and still make it look minimal. They were able to achieve this nice look with the dimensions I'm going with.

Jesse assured me that the integrity of the tank is solid and can hold up the canopy and me leaning. The standards for that in Italy have to be met in order to ship it out. I think, alright, but what makes me hesitant is that the lip of the canopy now will hang over the water and gather condensation and leech into the tank when it drips.

He offered a couple of solutions. One of the tank builders will fly out to California and he will air freight the glass for eurobracing. The builder will then install this on site in the U.S. The other option was for him to ship the tank back to Italy, then have them put eurobracing on it, and ship it back.

I opted for the first option. HOWEVER, the tank looks so elegant that it would be a shame to have the eurobracing, but I worry because of the last reason stated above. I really don't want to ruin this look if I could help it.

So, Jesse asked if the woodworker could do something to modify the canopy on our end here. He suggested we get thin acrylic made and seal it to the bottom of the canopy (or something similar). I think that's a great idea if we can do it. So I sent an email to Woodwork Refined and hopefully we can work something out on our end to help this. It would be great.

As for the overflow. That will be re-made and the builder will fly there to install it and the eurobracing (if I still want it).

So, my friends, that is where it stands right now and I'm optimistic. Either of the two solutions - builder comes to Cali to install eurobracing or modify the canopy sounds great. There just will be some more delay, which at this point doesn't matter anymore.

I also don't want to add pressure on him by saying I want this done quickly and being demanding. I know it will be solved and that's all I ask.

that was the first thing that poped into my head, lol. you do sound happy. wow, cant believe they are willing to go to such lengths to brace the aquarium. im excited for you and cant wait to see it in that stand again. :)

WOW, holly smokes....... (Jesse deserves a HI-5 for customer service!!)

as for your wood people... they (from pictures) make master pieces!! i am sure they will give you honest opinions on their end and give opinions as to what you can expect as far as longevity.

Keep us updated.
(just curious.. are you going to place the tank in the stand/canopy to see what it looks like and take pictures.) or wait till you speak with the wood people?

Yep, HI 5's all around for Jesse. He really keeps a level head, you have to give him time to do his thing!

I'm going to wait for the opinion from the woodworker. If we can do it that would be my preference. If not, then eurobracing it is, although I would hate to ruin the beautiful work and effort they made to make it rimless.

I don't have the tank, so no I won't place it on the stand. I'm sure it would be motivating for me to see it just once like that!

OOOOOOHHH.....
those are the pictures that were sent to you from customs??

(i thought it was at your house!!! :blown::blown:)
Oh well. it looks amazing from my computer, and i am sure it will be that much more in person.

Let us know what the WoodGuys/Girls say.
(the options and the suggestions)

:beachbum::dance::dance::rollface::inlove:
you can tell a little up-beat in your voice/text now.
Glad to see some positive happening here and there. lol

:D You can tell? That's awesome!

I can't wait, and at the same time I CAN wait. Yep, those pics were from Jesse. I will definitely let you know how things shake out.

:D

I forgot to mention that the vertically staggered holes may have been misinterpreted because I drew a picture of where I wanted them. I staggered them in my picture, but they thought it looked that way because I was following the angle of the trapezoid side in my drawing. Understandable.

My face is bursting with the biggest smile as I type this.

Woodwork Refined is going to silicone a layer of acrylic to the bottom of the canopy so it can sit on the tank.

All that is needed is the modified overflow installed and a double check on the glass thickness (I got the 3/4") and I should have this in!

Ah! I struggled a couple of days ago trying to decide if it's really worth posting after talking to Jesse.
:)

They are making a new overflow (cover) to accommodate the Tunze spacing and adding adjustable grills so I can tweak it if there is too much restriction to the intake. That should arrive in a week and then I hope to be able to get a delivery date set up!

Hooray!

In the last 4 weeks we have been busy dealing with other stuff in life (car was stolen, remodeling, etc). One of them is a new puppy so here is a new picture, too bad it's not tank related.

Here is 'Primus von Schleisen' a.k.a. Odin, dog of sugar.

10 weeks old (he's 12 weeks now and about 10 lbs. larger):

Other two boys don't particularly care for him much.

Dog of Sugar. (like the name!)

and any pictures (even dogs or cabinets or just new boxes that have come in for the tank or misc are good pictures!!!!)

its all a part of the build! (my wife's little dog is next to me no matter what i do to my tank... she is a partner to the addiction)
