tas5tas' 237g Total System Build

I'm just waiting for the photo where you finally turn that couch around so it faces the tank!

So my tank has hit the 2 month mark. Everything is progressing nicely. Coral growth is great. The only thing im doing as far as dosing is 2ml of vodka once a day and 1tsp of vitamin C twice a day. I empty and clean my skimmer once every 3-4 days and do a weekly 10g water change on sundays. I try to siphon as much stuff out of the display as I can when performing water changes. I still have sand/debris being blown off of my rock and it covers the bottom of the tank in about 2-3 days. Here are a few pictures that I took today of the corals and a cople of full tank shots.

Nice to see an update, but 2 tsp of Vitamin C daily currently seems like too much. You don't have enough coral demand yet. Or is there some reason you feel you need that much?

I started out dosing 3/4 of tsp twice a day which was just over 5ppm for my tank and I went up to 1 tsp/7.13ppm because I have some purple zoas that have closed up since I bought the frag a little over a month ago. I also tend to feed kind of heavily.

wow, really shaping up. But, I just realized you're a BB man. Oh No-------------:hammer:

LOL, just kidding tank looks great.

Just a quick update....

The tank is a week shy of being 4 months old. Tonight I finally hooked up my 2 Phosban Reactors....1 with carbon and the other with GFO. Only losses to report in the first 4 months is the ORA Green Birdsnest......not sure what happened to it, but it doesn't look good and is about 90% dead. All other corals are doing great and growing at what I assume to be a normal rate. I finally got around to lifting my Lumenbrights up to a good height for my 20" tall tank. They now sit about 17" from the bottom of the reflector to the top of the tank....which is the same as 12" from the bottom of the reflector to the top of the tank on a standard 90g or 180g tank. Corals that were browning a bit have started to color up nicely again since moving the reflectors up. I finally got my own refractometer and found out that my salinity has been running low at around 1.023. I plan on adjusting up to 1.025 with my next water change. I'm still dosing vodka, but I'm up to a dose of 5ml/day. I'm still dosing Vitamin C as well and that is at a dose of 1tsp/ twice a day. I'm still having an issue with hair algae in the teeth of my overflow.(That's the reason for me adding the GFO) My nitrates and phosphates always test 0, but I know that can be used by the algae on the overflows and the chaeto in my refugium. I am going to start dosing magnesium on my tank also since it has been running low as well....hopefully raising my salinity will help with that too. I will try to post some pictures within the next week after my next water change and thorough tank cleaning.

It's better now that Coralvue sent me new magnet assemblies. It's alot quieter and seems to skim better. I've been trying to sell it though.

After selling my Octopus Extreme 300 skimmer, I will be upgrading to the Hurricone Cat2 skimmer which uses the same pump as the Bubble King skimmers. Initial reviews that I have read have been very good and I've even been told by the manufactuer(Coralvue makes them both) that it is a huge upgrade over my previous skimmer. The new skimmer should be here tomorrow according to FedEx and I can't wait.

The new skimmer is here!!!!! Out of the box.......milk white reaction chamber, thick foam head forming, and DEAD SILENT!!!! I will take some pictures and post them in a little while.

Here are the pictures of the new skimmer in action......

HURRICONE CAT2.....Skims like a Hurricane Catagory 5!!!

Just finished doing my weekly 10% water change. Things are really starting to show major signs of growth. I'm not sure if it's because the tank is now a little over 4 months old, or if it's because I raised the tank temperature a month ago. The tank now stays between 79.5 degrees and 80.0 degrees instead of the 78.5-79.0. Growth has really accelerated over the last month though and corals are starting to become different and brighter colors than before. It could also be attributed to the new Hurricone Cat2 skimmer......it pulls out half the skimmer cup of almost black gravy every 3-4days. I clean the cup, neck and body every 3-4 days also. I'm hoping that within another 3-4 months my small frags that I originally put in will turn into small colonies and by the 1 year mark be around the size of a baseball or bigger.

Here are the latest test results as well......

Sg-1.025
KH-9
Ca-440
Mg-1400
PO4-0
NO3-0

Here is a current full tank shot from today. The tank has really changed over the last 3 months since the first day corals were put in. As you can see, the tank is progressing nicely.....just need to buy some more colored sticks!!!LOL
