Hey! I have one of those also. I'm referring to it is a "decorator crab". Mine started out with some sand attached to its back; now it has some red algae and some zoanthid polybs on its back. He lets me handfeed it pieces of mysis shrimp and whatever else is on the menu. He stands with both claws in the air and grabs whatever I offer from the tweezers.

this isn t a decorator crab just look at the shape of his head some sort of crab just not decorator i have one like that as well had all types of algea growing on him i like the way this one is undercover kinda looks prehistoric
i maybe wrong about the type of crab though it is ahard to tell under moolights and a flashlight :)

Maybe it's a Furcate Spider Crab? I have that Reef Creature Identification book for the Florida/Bahamas and the pictures they have of the Furcate Spider Crab are the closest to what I have. According to the book, the young decorate themselves but adults might not decorate themselves.

could be still searching for an id hard because i cannot actually see the exact shape color etc of the crab

Does your crab looks like this?

I have one of these, definately an evil crab, looks like decorator like, but i think it might be a Furcate Spider Crab that someone was mentioning.

He sometimes covers himself with shells or some seaweed in the tank.

I currently have about 50 hitchhiker crabs in a 6 gallon nano, and this guy is the king of the hill. He sits out in the open, just waiting for prey to come by, if any other crab gets within 4" of him, that crab is a goner.

I assume I have 50 crabs in there b/c that is how many I have put in there, but I think this single crab must have eaten at least 10-15 other crabs so far. he also managed to catch a damsel.
