Tentacle from a hairy mushroom?

Hi all,

I just accidentally fragged a hairy mushroom. I was trying to split the rock, and split the shroom. Both halves seem to be doing fine.

My question is what is the small hair like tentacle that comes out from the shroom? Is this their stinger? or are they trying to catch food?
