Terrifying Creature in Substrate

ya thats what I was afraid of....its going to be a PIA to catch. Time to start reading up on worm traps :thumbdown

I had one 10 years ago that I caught, it was about 8 inches and was going crazy on my zoas, yeah man, catch it because things will end up missing. I caught mine using a red light bulb on a portable fixture, caught it munching one night and grabbed it with tweezers.

Very aggressive once you grab it. Good Luck!

Maybe you can suck it out with a shop-vac. I know sounds insane but I have used my shop-vac frequently to clean up old sand from tanks. This way you wouldn't have to touch the monster. Looks terrifying.

Just get a big turkey baster and sneak up on the tank with a flash light and turn it on to find him only for a second, then take the baster and squeeze the handle stick it in the water very fast but smooth and suck him out.
It has worked for me a few times with large bristle worms.

Turkey basting idea sounds like a great way to get that wretched monster.... I have no worms at the moment and better never!

ag, thanks, but I'll keep my worm with the wicked name of Medusa and you can keep the star wars monster you have. I'd simple try a long pair of tongs or the big, long tweezers and next time you see it, grab it and pull it out.

I wonder if it breaks while pulling it, will it grow back like some other worms do (I seriously doubt it, but it's consideration).

It looks like something from a space alien horror movie. put it and a mantis shrimp together in a small tank and film it. "Bobbit Worm vs Mantis Shrimp, the Movie"... it could out gross Aliens vs Predators!

Good luck my friend.

Good luck and if it's anything like a big bristle worm, don't be surprised when you grab it and find out it's a lot stronger than you think. I've been fighting a huge bristleworm in my tank for about 4 weeks now and can't seem to catch it. I've tried the bottle trap, which didn't work, I tried skewering it twice and it just ripped itself off both the hypodermic needle and the bamboo skewer.

My most recent acquisition is a pair of crucible tongs I've grabbed from work. I tried using really long forceps, but it was able to break free and retreat. If I can't get it soon, I'll be tearing down the tank. Ugh. Not what I really want to do though.

I've got some of the giant tweezers as well as a massive turkey Baster, hopefully I'll get the chance to use them. Unfortunately I have not actually seen the worm since I took the video, I've checked several times the last couple nights with a red light and have seen no trace of it...which is helpful

Thanks for all the input/horrifying videos and links! I do appreciate it!

some of those articles are hilarious BUT, now i'm gonna be looking for worms in my tanks and i BETTER NOT find any!

good luck catching this horrifying creature of your worst nightmares! oh, you better give somebody else your log-in info so that, you know, just in case the worm gets you before you get him, at least we will know the outcome.

I'd give him his own tank and name it. :D I've had some huge killer worms in my tank.
